Finn M91 VKT found/should I buy?

Post by desert drifter »

I have located a Finn M91 with SA marked VKT barrel dated 1942. What I could see was all matching numbers, sling stirrups(for better word), cleaning rod, 2 piece stock 95% or better. The barrel, trigger guard, sights and all metal fittings I estimate at 95% to 98% blue finish retaining. Very solid feel. Price $395 and probably not negotiable. My feelings about prices are that todays price might be next years bargain.

What is your opinion of the price?

Thanks

I recently gave $250 for a 1942 Tikka M91. It was missing the handguard, though.

Pics would help! Imagine that me asking for pics! That price seems more than a little too steep for my thoughts. Bill

Have seen some similar to your description on gunbroker go for a little under $300 to a little over $300, then add your ship and ffl transfer if applicable. So you're $395 face to face or out the door of your local shop might be a bit high, but not outrageous. It's a tough decision when you're battling that new/old gun fever.

I would like to have a Finn in my collection. The problem is I would say it has been about a year and half since I've seen any Finn for sale. I'll continue to research and read the comments to my post. Tomorrow I'll know if I should go for it.

Thanks for your comments and input. Much appreciated.

Maybe a little high. The more important question would be How much did you like it? You said if feels solid. To me, that means it feels good in your hands. If it has the things you like, maybe knock him down 20 bucks to make yourself feel good, and go for it.
If I like something, I will pay a premium, even though many of the professional collectors here may pass. Your gut usually has the right answer.

I'll certainly agree with catcracker. The gun is worth exactly what you're willing to pay for it. Prices will vary a bit based on where you're currently at and what your available supply is like. I know I over paid for one of mine (my 1917 Remington) but I just had to have it. It'll be in my collection for a long while so I'm not too worried about it. My B Barrel was $350 and my 1916 PTG was $275. I'd love to have the luck of some of the other guys on here that find them for $150-$200 but that hasn't happened yet. I've only seen one M91 locally that I didn't wind up buying (a '42 VKT) but they were asking $550 and well, I'm just not quite that crazy.

I'd have to agree that the price is on the high side.I assume its a local buy sense you said it felt solid..
Does that mean that is the total price,or is sales tax and any other fee's involved?
I also have to agree that if you want it,and can afford it,buy it.
Prices on M91's will not go down, but you have to do your homework, and be on the constant prow to find deals, they are out there, and they will come around, you just have to be patient.

It is on the higher side but in a ftf deal i dont mind paying a little more. Getting to see exactly what you are buying and not looking at a few crappy pictures of the rifle is worth a few bucks extra.

A firm offer of $350 otd should seal the deal and would be more than fair.

I agree a little high but without shipping its comparable...as long as the stock hasn't been refinished or anything. But if they add on tax etc I would try to get them to budge a little.

I agree with Lee on this. If it is as good as you say, $350 is a good price. But if you really like it... what's another $45?? :2cents:

Still thinking about it. Its always been my luck that when ever I go and buy something, shortly after something really cool comes along that I don't have the money for because I just spent it.

Still thinking, thanks for your comments.

If you really like it then get it. Offer the seller $350 & knock a few bucks off. If the extra cost still bothers you remember the Milsurp Collectors Motto; " I didn't pay too much; I just bought it early". See what this rifle will cost in 10 years & wish you could find one for under $400.

To give you a second opinion so to speak.........I currently have this '41' in "discussion" with a local buyer FTF, ( I have two of these) and my absolute bottom is $365.00. Just saying..........currently asking $375.00. High?.....maybe, but then again, they ain;t making any more are they?
