My New Ortgies Deutsche Werke 7.65/32acp

Post by danman132x »

Hey guys, just bought a Ortgies Deutsche Werke 7.65/32acp handgun. It was a spur of the moment buy, seeing it for sale on facebook. It looked interesting, so I did some quick research and went to buy it. What really drew me to it is that it was made in Erfurt, Germany, a city which I recently went to on Sept, 20th 2013 while on a trip to east Germany. I'm half German myself which adds to the personal value to me.

The gun is in pretty good shape I think. It has the 4th style address with the serial number in the 58000 range. I completely disassembled it last night to give a good cleaning and protect with some CLP. The barrel had some light surface rust on the inside on the chamber end, which all came out with some CLP and a tight fitting brass brush. Everything else is cleaned really good now with a nylon brush and clp. I would have taken a video on how to disassemble it, but it was late and dark last night. I will be doing this another time though since Youtube is lacking in the Ortgies.

People say it's scary to disassemble, but I found it extremely easy. Then again I'm great with hands on type work and taking anything apart. The barrel still has great rifling also. I think this one was made around 1920, but there's no definite way of knowing. The ones with the HO handle were anywhere between 1919 and 1921 from what I gather, and going by my 4th model slide I would guess somewhere in between. I got it for a pretty good price at 180 dollars.

On to some pics :D

I wish. I have a Steyr Mod 1911. My ex wife has a Colt 1903 in .32. It is somewhat similar to this Mauser.

A friend had a later one in 9Kurz- they are a very nice pistol. I cleaned it for him (his Dad used it as an under the seat/ backup gun, he was a cop), and yes, no sweat to work on, at least if you're German! I always wanted to collect .380's from 1900-1945. I had a 1908Colt , great gun, wish I still had it, but the offer I got was double what I had into it, and with a baby on the way back then.... :|

Your .32 is in great shape, danman132X, enjoy it! 8-)
