Chilean 1895 Mauser - First Looks
Chilean 1895 Mauser - First Looks
Here is a rifle I just purchased and it wasn't cheap. At the same time I think it was a steal. These are the seller's pictures. I have been looking for an 1895 Mauser example but have been disappointed at what is out there and the prices being asked... That is until I saw this beauty on a local forum. Not knowing much on the Chilean variety or the older Loewe examples and wanting to make sure I didn't over pay, I did what most non experts should do - I contacted JYD to get his take on what I should pay and for comment on the rifle itself. My sense was a thumbs up from him. A lesson to all newer collectors BTW - if you have questions about a rifle, always ask someone who will know the answer before jumping into a transaction you may be sorry for.
What we have here is a Chilean Mauser model 1895 by Loewe Berlin, making this rifle an antique made prior to 1899 as Loewe was bought by DWM and renamed in 1896 making the Loewe marked rifles easily determined Antique firearms. And for the age of this rifle, it is immaculate and is one of the nicest examples I have seen of these or any other Mauser, for that matter. The blueing on this rifle is immaculate and beautiful, as well as the wood. It is pristine with nice figuring. This rifle appears unfired/unissued based upon the cosmoline in the chamber and bore area. All numbers matching rifle stamped on every piece as pictured even with the original cleaning rod. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
This is the first time I have ever posted pictures of a rifle that I haven't received yet but I couldn't resist. Interesting that I just saw an Argentine 1909 DVM Mauser with a beginning price of $2100. That rifle doesn't compare to this one and I paid a fraction of what the 1909 seller is asking. Anyway, enjoy and thanks Jim.
More to come after I receive this rifle and have had a chance to fondle it.

Very nice! Wood is outstanding.
I have had 5 Chilean Mausers. Two 1895 rifles, one 1895 carbine, a 1893 OVS refurbish, and a 1912 rifle. The only one I have now is the 1912. Great rifles and wonders of German craftsmanship.

Very very nice.
I might have kept the orange free state rifle. I think those are up there these days.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Your gonna love it. These are German craftsmanship at it's finest. The stampings are crisp & pronounced & they just scream high quality. I really enjoy my 1895 Chilean... An excellent shooter & it looks kinda pretty too.

The OP has a pristine example
but I love the stock on Rongo's
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Very nice find!! I have a sporter in this and it has been my main hunting rifle for the past two years. Very accurate at 100yrds +. Mine likes the heavier rounds. Accuracy drops off when I get below 160gr range. Very comfortable to shoot with the 170gr.

Wow. Looks like it wasn't used.much at all. Really neat to see rifles that are over 115 years old in that condition.

Re: Chilean 1895 Mauser - First Looks
That is a great looking one. I have a 1895 Chilean redone to 7.62, and no where near as good condition. I eventually want one in 7mm also. Looks great.
Re: Chilean 1895 Mauser - First Looks
Bayonets, in as nearly perfect condition can be had very reasonable, also...

What a beauty. Likely lived a pampered life in a dark corner of a safe, protected from harm, just waiting for you to buy it.
