I would wait for someone who knows something about PU's to validate them before springing for one. Not that I have any plans to spring for one from anyone.

Trust, but verify. Collectors will tell you what is what, dealers will tell you what you want to hear, they have to or starve, always verify.

They keep emphasizing that they are refurbs. That makes me wonder, are they using that phrase to mean that these are ex-snipers that have been rescoped with war-time PU scopes?

No they're refurbed M91/30 PU Snipers that came from Molot or one of their partners and are imported by Inter Ordnance from the one's I've seen. What I don't quite get is the link above is for what they claim are "Matching Numbers" rifles which so far all of the Molots have been but they have these for sale http://www.classicfirearms.com/c-r-elig ... -and-mount for $599.99 and they left the "Matching Numbers" part out. They also claim this "This is a new batch of Snipers and supposedly the last that will be coming into the country (per the importer). From what we understand the well has run dry." which I believe has been their claim along with this. "We have seen a lot of Arsenal or post war conversions and these look different. They simply have an air of authenticity." for a long time.

I think they also sell pink lawn Flamingos somewhere on the site but I couldn't find a link. Probably in the same section as the chromed AK's. I did notice today is Tammy Wynette's birthday though by looking on their front page. That's there along with a picture of a Chihuahua wearing a sombreo and mexican blanket wishing me a "Happy Cinco De Mayo" :facepalm2:

@ WeldonHunter:

I do not doubt that they are refurb mosins, what I found interesting is the lack of actual verifiable language that indicates these are not re scoped ex-snipers. The wording is just vague enough, and couched so that one may draw inferences. They are legally protected from someone coming back and saying that they sold them under false pretenses, because the wording can be taken as ex-sniper rifles that have been re-scoped, as well as refurbed original configured snipers.

As of yet I haven't seen them do that. You can see by the tongue and cheek comments I made that they are a bit over the top with their descriptions. Here's an example. They had this ammo for sale http://www.classicfirearms.com/ammunition/bul54rst which by the picture is the same Bulgarian 7.62x54R LPS everyone else had for sale but they had in the description that it's "Sniper Grade" and an account of someone they know that shot it with results confirming this. If you look all the way down the page they still have under "Manufacturer's Description" that it's "Sniper Grade" which is incorrect if the ammo in the picture is what they're selling. Since these seem to be Molots or one of their partners chances are pretty high they're like all the others that have come in. What makes me wonder is the higher price for "matching numbers" and the other that doesn't claim that. I believe recently they had a listing that stated something to the effect that some parts might not be matching but I don't see that now. That's something to consider.

It says "They are original condition...i.e not arsenal re-finished." and then later down says "However - Many are Arsenal Re-Furbished" I know that they tried to change as little as possible on the snipers during refurbishment and some are almost original but that first statement is in complete contradiction to what the rest of the description says and what we know and just weirds me out.

I think that any completely 'original' Mosin rifle is very, very rare. 'Buyer beware'..

:soapbox:
I seen a Mosin at a gun show, someone "inserted" kill marks all over the stock, yet the seller claimed they were real. I sure they were real, as they must have recently been put on. Judi and her Mosin's ;mywink;

I would assume that these are the same refurbed Molots that Classic has been selling for at least a year now. Maybe the "numbers matching" ones have the scope number stamped on the receiver?

I think the answer to this question is far more simple than people are pondering.

Occam's razor.

I think all this means is that Classic is now taking the time to sort them (they didnt before, it was luck of the draw) and charging an extra 50 bones for matching.

They are the same re-furbished PU rifles that everyone else has been selling.

They are "real" as real a scope, 91/30 rifle, and mount. They might not be original from 1945. However, it's not a hack job model 91 rifle, Chinese mount, and reproduction scope, that's not a real sniper. I know we do know who put these rifles together, or when... the soviets in the 1940s-60's or molot last year,

but at least classic arms and royal tiger has real parts 91/30's. The two I purchased have great bores. Good price.

OK,
This last batch of snipers clearly do not have the Molot name on them anywhere.

They are clearly not handled by Molot.

They are from Russia and not the Ukraine (they have the Russian marks that are required in Russia)

They are real sniper rifle parts and real snipers refurbished more closely to the RGUNS snipers (from the Ukraine) then the Molot snipers.

But they have not been manipulated like the Molot rifles have been.

This has popped up a few times as of late. No real reason why they don't and none of them looked scubbed. I would like to point out that all of them so far are the "new" Tula arsenal marked ones. It looks to be a real sniper but again im not really an expert.

Just received my 2nd for $599.00, whereas I paid $700.00 for the 1st and both are not Molots, but have the Russian safety inspection marks all over these "sporting" rifles. They do not have the Molot model designations imprinted on them. Interestingly the instruction manual came for Russian ser. no. DJ2988 whereas mine is Hr5214. Both of my PU's are 1943 Issys so '43 was a good year for PU production? Pix's this weekend as I've got a pinched nerve and my son had to carry in the crate of ammo. :furious: He states he loves me and wants to blow some smoke down range. :chuckles: Even w/ the lead sled I'm afraid of what large caliber rifles will do to aggravate the nerve or bones.
The 2nd's butt plate s/n did not match the rest of the s/nos. on the rifle whereas on the 1st rifle everything matched and did not appear to be force matched.
Yeah, I'm happy the snipers took very much better care of their issue weapons than the general troops did as evidenced by the bore conditions, as clean as a pig's aXX's and w/o pitts or graying. :chain:

I got lucky with a purchase from (not sure what vender, it was a gunboards sponsor) a few years ago. It was an originally numbered on the barrel, receiver, and scope. Only the mount was electro penciled. All matching on floor plate, butt plate, bolt. No same marks or appearance of alteration. Is it an "all original" WWII sniper, I can't say. I know the odds are slim if best. Compared the yellowish stocks and re-furs, this stock shows age and a great darker red. I am happy. However, don't expect a "real sniper" untouched from Kursk or the gates of Berlin. These rifles are real that they are from WWII area. But be aware that they are similar the cmp garlands. You might receive a wwii serial number, but it's been repaired and seem some milage over 70+ years in soviet/Russian hands.
