Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
Newbie here, just picked up two "B grade" Molots from Classic Firearms for $99@. I had been reading quite a few articles about MNs, quite an interesting history. I promptly disassembled them, cleaned/scrubbed the bores with Hoppes#9, and applied Weapon Shield to the rest of the metal parts of the rifle. There wasn't a large amount of cosmoline present on either rifle. Checked firing-pin specs, looking forward to taking them out and see how they function. The bolt and breech numbers, as well as many others match, with some exceptions, i.e. the bayonets. The stocks show wear appropriate for a rifle that was made over seventy years ago. Looking forward to learning more about these pieces of world history.

I can't locate the thread but a while ago e had a member in Russia and he explained some of Molots markings. The little diamond stamp is a government stamp saying it passed what ever things that needed to be certified.
He also said that all firearms must be test fired prior to selling them. That would account for the clean stocks and bores.

OK, I just ordered still another Molot, which is a 91/30 sniper from Classic.
All to date Molot's are functional rifles, and certified as such. Proof tested!
Safe to shoot.
If I want to shoot a rifle safely, that bears the mark of a certifying agency what's the problem?
It maybe a while before we see anything from the Ukraine, even if the salt mines contain anything saleable given the present conditions.
Banners and Markers that attest to this will not be a detriment to future purchasers IMHO,
Yeah, as buyers prior to '68 we had rifles, and or pistols without import stamps, but that would not STOP me today from purchasing what I wanted.

Old Post Alert!
Buy what you want, who is trying to stop you? (other then the anti gun guys! They bring less money now and their resale value is less right now. They will be less valuable compared to the other PU sniper imports in the future, unless Molot answers some questions. And they refuse too. No reason to believe they will change their minds in the future.Joeinthehills wrote:Banners and Markers that attest to this will not be a detriment to future purchasers IMHO,![]()
People (even on this forum) are paying the extra $100 plus for a RGUNS sniper right now. Molot PU snipers are a good value if that is what you like. The parts are real, they just have a messed up provenance from a "questionable" distributor. No black and white trail of authenticity if you will. If that remains as is, it is bound to have a bearing on the value.

Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
My $$$ is on the Russian Molot's and w/in 5 yrs; if the Urkraine's are not being delivered it will become a non-issue!
This Of Course, could change radically if the Russian Molot's are not importable, due to political positions between the countries involved. Which also has implications on surplus ammo...
Proof of point, RC K98's.
Would you pay more for a Non-German manufactured K98 than a German manufactured K98 that was captured by Ivan and electro penciled and/or has other markings?
Which virtually every country did to captured weapons, whether they were the Germans, Japanese, Finnish, Russian, or Bulkan Countries.

Five years? Ah, an optimist! I expect us to be gone in 2.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
Well, it arrived, and will post pixs this weekend, as I've got to work or at least pretend to.
Upon arrival both the wood (after WWII based upon the echeons, except for the hand guard brass metal under black paint) and the metal 100%. Wood has allot of stamps.
The bore is exceptional, absolutely NO frosting, and the lands and grooves are to die for
Compared to my '25 - '35 Hex's, but very much like the Molot 1944 M44's, but maybe a shade better.
Bolt action prior to firing is as smooth as a baby's ass, with very little grease observed.
Scope is clear, but w/o scope cover.

Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
Have experienced difficulty in converting Pixs between Camedia and Photobucket.
Bore compares to my M39 as unissued, no Molot banner, but Russian safety acceptance stamps, the importer appears to be in FL, but it's under the barrel cleaning rod and is so damn small I can't read it (very light stampings).
No KO- Molot Model designation, but definitely Russian.
Friend of mine ordered 2 and they came in same as mine literally free of grease, except for his 5 Hex's all laminates, post-war rebuilds, 3 Tula's and 2 Izhevsk's all in lamey stocks, and enough grease to lube your lawn tractors bearings. Definitely from the Ukraine on these beauties.
The bonus was that w/ the hex's he got the full complement of accessories plus extra cartridge pouch, and that’s including the sling.

Appears to have all matching S/Nos. w/o strike overs w/ the exception of one no. on the barrel.

The Triangle/Circle "T" of the right side of the action (Under "Made in Russia") is the current mark of Tula. http://www.tulatoz.ru/en/Joeinthehills wrote:Appears to have all matching S/Nos. w/o strike overs w/ the exception of one no. on the barrel.
Looks like they are processing rifles for export now as well as Molot.

Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
I don't own a Molot yet, however I'll take their mark over the current huge ugly marring century import marks. When I get over it I'll post my K31 import mark from Hell.
We have met the enemy and he is us.
Re: Molot's The Future of Mosin-Nagants?
I purchased a m44 from Classic Arms and it was a rearsenaled Izhevsk 1945 by Tula. I can not find anything on the rearsenaled m44's from Tula. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I understand to be true as well.Gsragtop wrote:We know Russia proper can't sell surplus military items to the USA, but hunting rifles are just fine (not sure why that is). So I'm sure that's why Molot was originally set up, to get around the road block of military rifles.
