Welcome to the board, the guys would need to see a good photo spread before they can offer up a useful idea of what current market value would be.marksp7 wrote:Hey guys thanks for adding me. Newby to the Mosins, just picked up my first not really knowing what it was. Guess it was beginners luck, from what ive found it's a little rarer than most? It's a M28 Finnish with a "Ski Trooper" double sling notched stock. With the beginners luck came a screaming deal, who can give me a ball park appraisal? Condition is what I would consider average to good.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Sorry, even after re-sizing the pics, I keep getting this message:
"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."
I noticed the "example" given was a Google address - I wonder if mine being a Microsoft address is causing problems? :-D

You can also try an image hosting site, like imgur.comCtrelok-2ID wrote:Sorry, even after re-sizing the pics, I keep getting this message:

I was referred to this site by a friend who was recently bitten by the Mosinitis bug. I was browsing Cabela's Hammond IN store today and spotted a '33 hex Tula 91/30 on the rack and said to myself "why the heck not?" Now I need ammo.

Welcome to the forum. Are you trying to upload the pictures straight from your computer to this site or are you using a hosting site like jones0430 suggested? I use Photobucket as a hosting site and simply cut and paste the IMG links straight to the post field I'm making. Otherwise you'll have to resize them to 640x480 like JunkYardDog said to upload them straight on to here. If you're not sure what that all means PM me and I'll see what I can do to help.Ctrelok-2ID wrote:Sorry, even after re-sizing the pics, I keep getting this message:

I was trying to use Microsoft's "one Drive" (online) - I'm going to try a link to imgur (let's see if this works)-
Nope! still getting error message about "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." - even though I re-sized the images to 620 x 442 and uploaded them to imgur. Hmmm... :-/

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Regarding ammo - what kind are you looking for? The "Russian surplus" is fairly easy to come by and it's cheap - but it's usually corrosive (clean well after using), has a Berdan Primer (non-reloadable), is steel cased, FMJ, and often has a steel core (in other words-armor piercing), so many ranges won't let you use it. Herter's, and Prvi Partisan both make a soft point ammo that is authorized for hunting and most range use (If I remember correctly, Herter's is a 180 grain, and the Prvi Partisan is a 150 grain), and both use brass casings and non-corrosive Boxer Primers (and are re-loadable). I believe Both Cabela's and Gander Mountain carry these brands. Fleet Farm carries the Russian surplus type ammo (Wolf brand?).

Hello, I am Aston. I have been collecting soviet firearms for 2 years now. Most of my family still lives in Russia and I visit often. I have a large collection of soviet era memorabilia. I love everything USSR and Soviet Bloc, including my 2 Mosins.
Glad to be here.

O.K., I don't know wether a "reply" counts as a first post but please tell me if I do something wrong. Got my first Mosin in December, 2013 @ Big 5 in southern California. Then a month later a salesman called and said they had just gotten in a consignment of eight hex receiver Mosins and I should come down and check them out. Well I did and returned my original purchase and for fifty dollars more I had a 1931 hex (more details at a later date). Bore is good, action a little loose, stock really good, all stamped numbers matching.
Salesman said I would never fire it. I'm getting there. I'll be back in a while.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
There is nothing wrong with a hex receiver Mosin, that store carry's the same refurbished 91/30's both round and hex receiver as any other big outfit. We all shoot hex receiver Mosins frequently, and ones a lot older than what they have at the store with no problems. The salesman is an idiot for telling you what he did, good way to drive off business. The action should be a bit loose, this is the secret of why the Mosin did so well in snow, ice, and mud, the bolt had the wiggle room to shed it off.one finger john wrote:O.K., I don't know wether a "reply" counts as a first post but please tell me if I do something wrong. I own 3 HEX receiver Mosin 91/31 acquired at Big 5 and shoot them often with no problems
you just have to take the care to degrease them and vigorously scrub the chamber and bore first - JB bore polish helped
The Finn M39s were built on hex Mosin 91 receivers and are still excellent shooters today - on par with any period rifle
an M39 is next on my list for acquisition

I'll make one last try to post re-sized pics using photobucket -
