In the ad: "....Gun spent last 20-30 years on the attic, according to its previous owner. "

On the attic? You mean the roof...

Flood Recovery. Probably still a good shooter if nothing else. Too bad.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Yeah, I was thinking Katrina actually. Seeing a lot of these on Gunbroker, most are Katrina damaged.

A lot of floods even more recently, we had some spectacular ones in NY earlier his year. This looks like three weeks, maybe a month underwater. The sellac protected the stock pretty well.

You could be right and there have been a lot of floods. I was just thinking the pitting looked like saltwater damage, but I truly wouldn't know one from the other. Sad, the condition of the rifle either way. It's a blond laminate with a black bayonet. I actually did one just like that last year, by swapping a black bayo for a silver on one of my blonde lammies. Before I sold her, I swapped the bayo's back, so she had her original stuff.

This one (1950) is most likely a non-chromed bore. A flood/water damage/damp attic disclosure would worry me a bit.
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....
