Bought My First Non-Reburb, a Tula 1936 Round Receiver
Bought My First Non-Reburb, a Tula 1936 Round Receiver
I already have a lovely Tula 1936 hex receiver refurb rifle that is my favorite 91/30. Once I heard that in that year both hex and round receiver were made I wanted to have a '36 Tula round receiver to go with it. I have been looking for one for a couple of months and hadn't found a good one - until now! On Gunbroker.com last weekend I was able to win what looks like an original, non-refurbished, 1936 Tula round receiver 91/30 that was found in an estate sale. It even has a Tula stock dated 1936! I haven't received it yet, but from the pictures of it I am getting excited!! From what I see, it may have been in this country prior to 1968 as I see no importer mark in the normal places. Here are some of the pictures from the ad:
The only shortcoming is that the bolt is not serial matched, but that's no big deal in this case. Who knows, may be it was a field repair in World War II.

You !!! Your the one who beat me !!! Lol, seriously congrats... BTW it's very likely a Spanish Civil War rifle, that's why I was bidding on it.
I also liked the blued bolt... It's not all that common to find.

Sorry about that!
I also wonder if it might be a SCW rifle as well. I will be checking the rifle out carefully when I finally get it next month.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Looks like it could be one of the scw imports but what's the deal with the blued bolt?
Only blued bolt I have seen have been Finns or bubbas.
It looks like a nice rifle and the price was pretty good.

I had my eye on that one as well. I had an auction I had to save my money for, so I let a few GB buys pass in favor of the auction. I was thinking SCW as well. Looks really good.

The Russians also blued bolts every now and againduring refurb. The bued bolt is what is puzzeling for a SCW rifle, I would be more inclined to think Finn with the blued bolt.Lee-online wrote:Looks like it could be one of the scw imports but what's the deal with the blued bolt?

Some of the blued bolts will also be found on the Vietnam era Type 53 too. I have encountered quite a few over the years including a couple that had bad metallurgy and could hurt you if fired. I need to do some pictures or rather have somebody do some on the one I have retained for the collection. It was known to have a fractured bolt and is blued with wear on it. Don't you just love to wait for questioned rifles to arrive? Congrats no matter how it turns out! Remember nothing ventured nothing gained! Bill

Congrats!! I, too was watching this rifle since it was first posted and really liked it, especially being that the bore was nice. I can't remember if I bid or not - probably not because the bids were beginning to go pretty high. Looks like you have a really nice rifle. Post it when you get it. I would like to know about the handguard - is the ring too tight? What caused the warping. Regardless, a nice pick up.

Thank you fellow forum members for your comments! Your thought have made me even more excited about getting this rifle. I hadn't considered that it might be a SCW or Finn capture rifle. I promise to post more pictures as soon as it get this Tula in my hands.
