Howdy,

Making my first post here I am a huge fan of milsurp firearms and the Mosin is one of my favourites.
I own a 1939 Izhevsk round receiver matching serial numbers Mosin.

Looking forward to making this my forum for all my milsurps.

Hello all, greetings from Texas. I've been lurking here for a few months and decided to join since I see this addiction growing. Yesterday I bought my second Mosin, a 1936 model. I took it to the range today and fired some reloads thru it. The second one is as sweet as the first one, a 1942 model. I look foward to spending some time here and increasing my knowledge.

Thanks all!

Hi, I just got my first Mosin Nagant Chinese Type53. I wanted a high power rifle and little money and have been looking at the local gun store and have seen a nice Mosin Nagant but it just seemed too long for me.Over in a corner were some other military type rifle and I noticed a rifle with a tag saying Chinese. I looked at it but it looked really ruff and the guy said he had some more in boxes and got 2 more. One was in really nice shape with a mirror shiny barrel. 199.00$ later home it went. Very little cleaning and out I went to try it out. 50 yards and first shot it was dead center just 2 inches low. Wow is it loud. 3 more shoots and I stopped because I didn't bring ear plugs. I think I just have to get used to sights. all 3 were a little bit low but right on center other wise. It has mostly matching numbers except on the butt plate on stock. Will take a couple pics soon. I just put a lite varnish finish on wood to shine it up a bit. Nice bayonet on it. A little scary looking. And it is a 1955.

Welcome to the board, the one thing we try to emphasize here is the importance of preserving a milsurp in the condition it was in when last issued. This is not to mean that active rust on the metal should be ignored, but things like thinning bluing, or worn stock finishes should be preserved. That varnish is not how the Albanian military last had that weapon, it is a change that can't be undone. Military rifles that have seen a lifetime of service tend to look the part, the hoard of Soviet refurbished rifles have gotten people thinking that is how all milsurps should look. Oh well, you live, and you learn.

Welcome to the board, what does the family in Russia think of the recent events in Ukraine?

Hey, everyone.
Im Phil, from Michigan.
I just purchased my first ever firearm...which happens to be a Mosin Nagant M91/30.
I haven't even had a chance to fire it yet. I've been doing my best to get it cleaned up, and remove all of the cosmoline.
I picked mine up at a local Gander Mountain (A good friend works there, and got me a good deal.)
It was in great condition, apart from the flaking laquer on the stock. I'm in the process of sanding down and refinishing the stock and handguard.

Thanks for the welcome. About the finish on the wood I went over it real good with fine steel wool almost back to wood . It doesn't have any shine to it. I found your site after I did the work. I don't plan on really doing anything else. The bluing is actually in pretty good shape for it.I was told it came from Croatia
.

Yes, many of these rifles seem to have found their way to some of the Balkans garden spots during the late unpleasantness in the 90's.

Newbie here from Memphis
I've done this twice but still don't see my post so if this is a repeat forgive. I haven't owned a guy in 35 years. I haven't shot a gun in 25 years. I happened to walk into a gun shop and saw this Tula 1942 resting there all nice and pretty. For whatever reason, I bought it. I spent the next few weeks researching the gun and now I'm hooked. I have a new hobby. Just bought my second Mosin last week. A M44 thats in transit. Looking forward to restoring the guns.

Hi all,
My first C&R purchase 21 years ago was a 91/30 from Century arms. Believe it was $49.95. Ended up being a Finn- captured 1931 izhevsk, assembled from floor-sweepings. Finn 91/30 spliced stock, N.E.W. bolt body, izhevsk safety, Tula mag and trigger guard, one button and one regular barrel band. Disappointed with a mismatched rifle, I tried again and ended up adding a couple uninsured Finn reworks - a 91/30 with the full Finn treatment, dated 1944 and a Finn m91 from 1942. Later when the m39s became available, added an unissued 1968 and a mismatched 1942, each set me back $99. Last MN I picked up was an unused 1948 M44 for $80. Moving ahead to this year I was a bit surprised to see how prices had changed! I decided a "real" Russian 91/30 would be a good add before the prices move any higher. Ordered a laminate from SOG and was happy to get a nice bore and matching numbers.

I've learned a lot through lurking here and look forward to learning more as time goes by!

Thanks for having me!
Todd
