Luger Rig

Post by martin08 »

I recently added my first Luger to come with a holster and tool. It's a late-run 1939 S/42 from the Mauser factory.

Nothing too special as far as condition. The bluing on the receiver is rather thin. But it is original matching, along with mag.

Pics, and enjoy!

That one could have seen the entire war, at least the German part of it, nice find. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nice Luger Martin. My local and resident Luger guy says it is nice too. He wants to know if the firing pin has the 76 on it also?

Yes, the firing pin is matched.

But as this 1939 gun is within just a few thousand units of a model code change from S/42 to 42, a couple of parts do not have numbers - which is usual during the transition. The grips are not numbered, and the toggle axle pin is not numbered. Both items match in wear and patina, and are likely original to the gun.

Also, an interesting note. The first acceptance stamp on the left receiver of this pistol is the lowest serial number noted for a change in size of the SE/63 (stick eagle) stamp. The stamp is larger than the following acceptance stamp which appears on the slide. And the large SE/63 also appears on the bottom of the mag.

Following is a link to a data request for 1939 S/42 and 42 Mauser Lugers. My serial number is 8176p, and is very close to the 8173p serial number in the survey, which has both smaller sized acceptance stamps. All subsequent examples in the survey have a large or medium first stamp. So, mine is either at, or within 2 units of being the transitional pistol. A somewhat neat example.
