Oh yea one thing else I was gonna say. If you must shoot somthing cheap. They make pellet rifles now that ballistically is close or the same as a .22 and no shortage of pellets from what I have seen.

Sheridan Blue streak of mine is over 30 years old, and still drives 5mm pellets like a tack driver.
Deadly on anything rabbit sized, never tried to shoot much of anything any bigger.

There are several in the 2-300$ bracket that will drive tacks at 10-20 yards all day long.

Or if your willing to tinker you can buy a couple of the cheap chinese B3 airguns in .22 caliber for 40$.
Which seemed like a real deal to me, as you get both tinker on a new gun time, and an airgun that is cheap to shoot.
Pellets for .20 & .22 run about 2 cent's each if you shop a bit.

Ammo for pellet rifles seems fairly reasonable for plain jane rounds, good time to stock up while you can.
I recently got 1k rounds for my Sheridan, thinking about another thousand or two.
