It depends. How did you try to sell your Yugo? I mean, what kind of effort did you put into it? I know a guy who didn't try worth diddley to sell some guns, and kept telling his wife nobody is buying he didn't really want to sell but she didn't know that.

Re: SKS prices going down?
Lots of factors at play in pricing, recent imports have drove prices down, market saturation. I mean for a while, you could get a Chinese for around 325(sometime less) shipped to your door if you have a C&R. They have come back up some, but not much. Some people after the recent scare went gluttonous on buying, they are now broke, paying off credit cards. Some try to flip them, but loose money due to a lower priced market or they are stuck with high dollar items that are worth half what they paid.
A Yugo M59/66 for 340, ain't a terrible price, if it were a Yugoslavian M59, it would be a sweet deal. The Norinco, a common everyday one, I'd go 325/350 range, 375 is really pushing it, it's doable if it's still leaking and gummy with grease, but you gotta find someone willing to pay the extra for that. A Paratrooper or Model "D" or "M", $400 is a slammin deal. Keep in mind, if it's a regular run of the mill Type 56, it's a Chinese competing against recent import Chinese. The one some guy has may be "new", but to alot of people, the cheaper price usually wins. And as a side note on the recent SKS imports, alot of people like to gamble, in hopes they get a true Russian SKS, quite a few have hit the jackpot.
Allan's has Yugoslavians between 315 and 340 depending on condition http://www.allans-armory.com/aaresult.php?PageId=32
This site keeps up with current auction/sale pricing on many types of weapons, http://www.georgestragand.com/gunstockmarket/index.php

Re: SKS prices going down?
Simpson just posted a Russian SKS 45 today for $595 which was snatched up within an hour. That would be high end I expect. Certainly depends on where it's being sold.
Re: SKS prices going down?
Canadians are preparing for the prices to soar. Turmoil in the Ukraine, china jacking up the price and supply rumored to be getting low.
Marstar, the largest importer of Chinese SKS here has stopped. They sold out yesterday. For years they had a $75 SKS deal if you bought 1440 rounds to feed it. All over. Out of stock. They reported china was upping the price 80%. While that us still good by some standards, they bowed out. $350 for a Chinese SKS when Canadians are used to $250 tops for a non refurb russian is a bit of a local sticker shock.

Re: SKS prices going down?
For the last year Westrifle has been saying that the exporters overseas have started putting pressure on buyers trying to raise the price. The market is ridiculous here as well. Everyone sells SKS carbines. Russians range from $159 for refurb birch stocks to $250 for non-refurb birch. Laminates usually cost 20 to 30 more depending on condition vs the birch. 49 Russians go for 450 ish. With the turmoil in the Ukraine the UN and EU have offered support, but that support comes with presuure to destroy surplus firearm stockpiles. So greedier exporters, civil unrest, questionable numbers left and outside political presure are causing a price jump forcast for russians.
The Chinese carbines are a different issue but the same issue. Surplus supply rumours, norinco wanting more money, overseas couriers not wanting to ship. Cosco Shipping bring us our chinese ammo and guns. They travel through seattle before hitting vancouver and due to that they get grief from the Seattle agencies. Thanks to that, chinese ammo is no longer coming in to canada. That stopped a month or two ago. This week the "no more chinese sks are coming" was posted by marstar. Small buying frenzy ensued and now they are sold out after years of bringing them in cheap. They were doing the ammo and sks deal for about 5 years. The 1440 rounds surplus ammo plus $75 type 56 worked out to about 350 to 400 depending on shipping. Just the type 56 was $189.
SVT and Mosin imports may be feeling the same pressure as the russian sks imports. Sucks.

Re: SKS prices going down?
The guy at the last gun show I was at walking around with the Norinco SKS and the sign on his back saying $595.00 was dreaming, I wanted to tell him he would be doing okay if he got half that. prices have come down on these somewhat.

I think they are dropping also. Locally the prices had got as high as $550-600 but now I have seen a few above $450 with ammo and they aren't selling.
I'm hoping they come down to around $275-300 again so I can buy a few.

SKS prices seem to be VERY healthy when I'm selling!

Re: SKS prices going down?
Martino08: You received a very good price for that SKS, and you did everything correctly in your listing. Clear photos, good description, and the item was desirable. That price was above average for even a Russian SKS of the condition you listed, congrats! A few other factors are working in your favor, notably the volume of listings has reduced in the last few months, so if someone wants a Russian SKS, there are less to choose from and the number is smaller still for Russian SKS in the condition you had posted.
This is data from 2013, but it's possible to see the trend of less listings for Russian SKS beginning in 2013: GunStockMarket 2013 Market Report, The Russian SKS.

Re: SKS prices going down?
The first milsurp I was looking for was a Russian SKS which got me onto the Mosins. I thought $425 for a decent one was a little high and waited for the prices to come down. Obviously I don't have one. Did buy a lot of Mosins under $100 so I can't complain.

Re: SKS prices going down?
I think prices are dropping from the days of the bubble, but I don't see a bigger drop coming. I bought several SKSs from various sources this year for (what some have described as) excellent prices. Yugo, Chinese, even a Russian refurb. The few good deals are very difficult to find, but I was patient and jumped on opportunities when possible. I learned that impatience gave me high prices and hesitation gave me regrets. I do expect prices have stabilized and the days of the $199 SKS specials may be gone forever.

Re: SKS prices going down?
I'm still clinging to the few SKS rifles I bought in the early 90's for prices current shoppers would cry over. I remember when the local Fleet Farm had some of the Yugo's for under $100 but I passed... They were rough & didn't have the chrome lined bores like my Norincos & Soviet.

I need to find a way to cross the border, load up on rifles, and come back home.
