1934 Izhevsk w Light Handguard and Stock Cartouches
Re: 1934 Izhevsk w Light Handguard and Stock Cartouches
This doesn't look like a normal refurb to me. Refurbed? Yes, but where? I see no Ukrainian stampings on the shank or butt stock. This could be Romanian refurbished. The oversized handguard or small bands might indicate that too. The CCCP stamp on the butt is still fairly crisp but the stamp above it looks sanded. You didn't post a picture of the bolt. Does it match the other serial numbers? If not, it would be right up my alley as long as the price was right. One thing not mentioned is that everything appears to be Izhevsk on this rifle which to me is a plus. If the bolt doesn't match, it is probably made up of parts from Tula as well, a further indication of possible Balkan use. And, if so, it is in great condition. How was the bore? I'd look it over pretty close and possibly spring for it if the price were right and all the stars lined up. If it has a matching bolt and the bolt is Izhevsk, I would like it too. That said, I wouldn't pay much more than $135 for it.

Thanks for all the great comments, Gentlemen. Sorry, I've been away from computers for a few days. I certainly do appreciate JYD, Bill and others looking out for the interests of the new Mosin owners. Your passion on this subject is clearly evident! This is at a Big 5. Their importer is CAI, Georgia, VT. Other gunshops I have seen treat all Mosins the same & price them all the same. Big 5 is different. They now have different stock numbers and barcodes, and thus prices, for the different types of Mosins. Round = around $150, Hex = around $180, (both with full accessories), and they have a laminated stock with a different SKU# priced at $230 with no accessories. Can't recall the bolt arsenal markings right now. Of course all numbers are force matched with electro pencil. I may end up taking your advice and give them a lowball, citing items like mismatch of color and fit, possible mismatch stock etc. and the safety issue of the possibility of the handguard coming off while firing since the rear band is not locking. Thanks to Tim, Marcus, Desdem, Hammer, DJbuck, M38, Long Colt, and all the other people who have chimed in. Believe it when I say that us newbies really do appreciate the input and knowledge of you long time collectors and enthusiasts!
