Look pretty good. Get some extra fine steel wool and some gun oil. Gently work it around those corroded areas. The pitting won't go away, but the brown scaley stuff will be helped.

Ya gotta change the fabric on the sofa, I thought I was seeing double a couple of times... :ugeek:

Very nice, and yah they'll clean up fine. You did Super on the selections that you received! :thumbsup:

With only 22 Hexes under the belt, I've enjoyed picking up some of the later round receivers for shooting, but some of them were so nice had to order a few more for shooting since they were so nice. :bwink:

Please do NOT start looking at the Finnish variants, they're much too expensive, beside I don't need the additional competion... :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

But, wished AIM would have selected by arsenal and year of manufacture, as I've a couple of duplicates.

Note: I have cleaned up my act, and gotten the rifles off of my wife's furniture and now they are stacked 2 deep, and 12 wide in a custom rack.
I've only got 22 91/30 Hexs, but a few Finn's too, but that doesn't stop me on picking up some round receivers, and 1895 Nagants.

:soapbox:
.Wow Joe, I did not realize you have wonderful collection there. :Drool1: :Drool1: :thumbsup: Semper Fi , Now mountthem on the walls Judi and her Mosin's ;mywink;

The second one from the left (in the photo showing the butt plates), closest to the chair is a non hand picked one. The fourth one from the left is a hand picked. 2,5,6 are the non hand picked rifles.

The 3 with the pitted front barrel bands were non hand picked (so 2,5,6 from the left). You can see that in the shot of the front barrel bands. So if I replace the front barrel band on no 2, it will be the equivalent of the hand picked ones. And one of the hand picked had some discoloration on the butt plate.

They are all matching with nice bores, and no counter bores. Planning on cleaning one at a time before range testing (remove from stock to check for corrosion, check firing pin protrusion, disassemble and inspect bolts, ensure locking lug area is clean, etc. etc. )

Following up on AIM's response to the pitted parts (barrel bands and butt plates). They had me send them a few photos and immediately sent out replacements. Too bad the butt plates won't match but we'll keep the originals for C&R sake.

Also received some parts from Liberty Tree Collectors. I had already ordered replacement parts from them when I got the brilliant idea to call AIM (the stupid will be punished....). But Liberty has a couple of nose caps I needed too. And they offered the bands with either Izhevsk or Tula markings.

Good service from both companies.

I didn't see anything in your pictures that looked like the butt plates were all that bad. Did you work the rust spots with oil and a brush? I would not replace a matching butt plate for "cosmetic purposes" unless they were broken in half.
