Russian and Ukranian Ammunition Supply

Post by OLD OUTLAW »

Don't know how many of you are watching this Ukraine/Russian problem going on. But if Europe and the US do put an economic embargo on Russia and a separate Worldwide Arms Ban on Russia, look out. You can bet your bippy that all this cheap import ammo will be gone as soon as the pipeline empties.

If this, and I am betting it will happen, you will not be able to buy the stuff cheap for your Mosins, SKS, and AK rifles.
Even when things settle down, I will bet you that our .Gov will not again allow the import of all that ammo for out guns.
It will become another Gun Control method.

You all need to think about this. Because Walmart will not be able to help you guys. Buy by the case now and quickly I suggest. I talked to two Distributors of ammo from there today. At this time the Ukrainian Arsenal does not answer a telephone or a fax. The plant is on the Eastern Border with Russia. Right on it it appears. Population there is mostly Russian.
It is suspected the Russians may already have taken it.

Think what you may, but think hard about cheap ammo now today.

The U.S. will probably use this as an excuse to embargo commercial Russian ammo sales like we did Israel 30 years ago, say goodbye to a source of quality cheap ammo.

I stocked up long ago, not in anticipation of this, but because I know surplus ammo is not forever.

Back on topic, I just bought a crate I didn't need knowing that the price is going up. I can't wait to see what they are charging at the next gun show I go to.

Thanks Paul. Just another reason why it is always good to keep stocked up for a few years ahead of time. People do not seem to understand that Politics and Politicians trump their Walmart supplies. If things there over the next couple of months go South, there won't be cheap surplus in those calibers. And I bet the anti gun people will not let it come back. This situation may well be to their greatest joy. And they will see that it never comes back here. Damn, I hope it does not come to this. But it very easily could at this time. Hope for the best and stock up. Nothing else one can do.

In the past two months I have replaced what I shot from my stock during the Obama scares. So I am good for a few years to come. But I bet 99 out of 100 people have less than 200 rounds in stock. Walmart shoppers checking for ammo daily.
Oh well.

It's good to be aware of the situation & weigh the possibility that this could potentially happen. If you have some extra funds & want to have plenty of ammo it would be prudent to buy some now as the prices will most likely rise in the coming months do to fear mongering.
Just remember that as always, this scenario is a possibility but by no means set in stone.

OO predicted the ammo shortage a couple of years ago on another board. I was one of those people that paid attention and started my collection, even though I was a little late.

For those who don't know him, you'd be very wise to heed his advice. Thanks Steve.

I predicted it in 1978, fact of life when dealing with surplus ammunition, it's leftover from the activities of an earlier age. We are using up what the people from that earlier time didn't need once they were finished with a particular weapons platform. The factory's that made it went cold decades ago making what is left all that there will ever be. To be technical about it even this ammo we shoot is itself a historical military collectable. The more popular ammo becomes the faster it will disappear. Sometimes people forget when the ammo seems cheap and plentiful, that there is no factory on the other end cranking it out, the more they use the closer they get to the end of the supply. Even the commies with their make work ammo production didn't make an unlimited amount. I have entire crates of ammo that are now part of the millsurp collection, not for shooting, probably fifteen or more spam cans alone just for that. One day when there is no more surplus at the local gun shop or online I will be displaying spam cans full of ammo with the rifles made to shoot it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
