Russian SKS M45
Re: Russian SKS M45
I would never feel bad for someone. Dig them up and take a foto to make sure they exist. I live in my own little world of guns here and am happy to find what i can and see pics of the good stuff. It's all good as they say.

Hey Weldon!
I remember reading this post now when I was still a lurker lol. Man, that seems like two years ago, not two months ago!
You're right, they're nearly twins. Your serial number sure is low though! Very nice SKS! Did you ever get the cover?
Thanks for telling me about this thread. I just re-read it in its entirety again

Precise explainations in a detailed manner at it best right here at TRMN Forum's. Doesent get any better then that.OLD OUTLAW wrote:Mike, I have shimmed a number of various SKS, whether I thought they needed it or not. But especially had to any noticed as loose.
My preferred method is thin Aluminum tape from any lumber yard. I put it in the slot in the stock at the rear of the receiver.
Does the tape stick to the wood real well? No,it doesn't. But, eventually it gets formed into place just fine. I have 9 rifles I shoot a lot, Russian, Chinese, Yugo M59's, and Romanian. Shimmed every darn one of them and they all became much more accurate. I think I can safely say 90% plus SKS owners never notice or even think of this. Because it is a Military rifle. I just put strip after strip in until the receiver fits real snug into that stock. I have a sheet of paper that I wrote down on how many strips I cut and put in each rifle. So, if I lose one when the receiver is removed from the stock, I just put the same number of cut strips back in. The roll of tape for this I bought, was about $3.50 a roll. Enough for all of my approximately 35 SKS if I ever wanted to shoot the others. One roll will last me longer than I have left.
Edit: By the way my friend, why are you making me drool over those nice ammo cans. That is pure torture!

As soon as I saw it, it hit me. Same as mine, Laminate 51ish Tula refurb. Ukrainian refurb at that. I saw the numbers too, but remember there's alpha prefixes and they're different. At first glance I thought "WOW! they're only about 4700 numbers apart in the series but it's way more than that. But they are sisters, most likely the same year, from the same plant and most likely refurbed at the same place too. Cool!! The man cave has certainly changed since then huh?

On the right buttstock there's a square with a diagonal line going from one corner to the next in the middle of it.Bareassmeagain wrote:Weldon hunter How do you tell if its a Ukraine referb ? very intresting.

Re: Russian SKS M45
One of my shootin' buddies that lives through the woods about half a mile stopped by the other day and I took him in to see the new additions and he was like WOW!! He didn't know where to start. He hasn't been here for about 3 months or more and couldn't believe it. Before I only had 2 racks in there and one in the hall. Now I have 5 all full with some in the corners. He had a lot of questions. He even scoped out the SxS 12ga. I restored and had to hold it. Then he saw the 1894 Marlin and said I'd be hunting with that. I said it's only 44Mag. and he said so what. It'll take down a deer at 100 yards. He knows what he's talking about too. Been hunting since he was a kid and is now in his mid thirties. Has two kids of his own now and he, his wife and both the 15yo son and 10yo daugther hunt. The son got 6 deer last year but this year he gave out on him after 3. He's found women, god help the poor kid, lol.MN Fan wrote:lol, that is has. I have my single shot 12 ga. proudly displayed front and center though! Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

JD, if I could afford the trip, I'd be happy to come pick it up! It would be worth every penny to meet you in person and maybe get a glimpse of that arsenal you have stashed away.
I got lucky, this one is the original metal with puke green paint. It still has the governement tag affixed to the side. I hated those desks when I had to use them back in the 80's. Now I am shopping for them lol.

That SKS looks great save for the scope setup. That's a shame... Otherwise it's a beauty.
And I think the BATF is kicking in Weldonhunters door as we speak.

That is a standard Russian Refurb mark. Especially common on Laminate replacement stocks.WeldonHunter wrote:On the right buttstock there's a square with a diagonal line going from one corner to the next in the middle of it.Bareassmeagain wrote:Weldon hunter How do you tell if its a Ukraine referb ? very intresting.
Used by many Russian refurb shops. Some times you will see it on the receiver cover instead of the diamond.
There were two marks used that we fully know of. That diver down and the trianagle.

Re: Russian SKS M45
Hopefully the scope will be gone some time soon. As soon as my uncle finds the original bolt cover and he does have it....somewhere, that things coming off and it's back to fully original. It doesn't hold zero anyway. Why anyone would think that crap was a good idea is beyond me. The bolt cover on these is basically free floating.Rongoman wrote:That SKS looks great save for the scope setup. That's a shame... Otherwise it's a beauty.![]()

So should I be worried about my ammo stash? I only have a few rounds for home defense.
