Saved a five line Tula from a bubba
At least he was smart enough to know that the rifle had some history. Found it on a FB forum. Per his quote:
"Ok. I'm holding this 1928 Tula ex-dragoon hostage. Its a nice five-liner. Anyhow, I'm a redneck and I like to bubba-up my mosins. That being said, I do have an appreciation for history and these fine rifles. I know the five liners are desirable and harder to find. So, before I go chopping this thing up, destroying it from its original form forever, I'm going to offer it up for trade for a much cheaper version. I'd prefer an ugly one to be honest. All I need is a good bore, good headspace, and a clean cycling action. No stock needed."
So I traded a 1942 Izhevsk with a cracked stock and $50 for it. A little too much but saved from destruction just the same!!!

Reading that made me cringe. Glad you saved that mosin even if it took sacrificing another.

I knew one was going to get cut up so I had a decision to make. I did not like the decision but I think the outcome was in our favor!

Good Job! and nice rifle

Re: Saved a five line Tula from a bubba
He actually posted that? I know that I'm dating myself, but all I can think of is the cover of an old National Lampoon, "Buy this magazine,or we'll shoot this dog!" Google it to have a look if you're under 50.
Too bad he still insisted on having a "prisoner" to torture.
But I have to agree. You did the right thing.

A used Savage 110 is what? $250? Or less, and is a much better hunting rifle than the Mosin Bubba creation will be. People are some stupid. At least you have the 1925 out of it, too bad about the other rifle.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Saw that one on there, glad you saved it!
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.

You done good ! I'm with Dawg, why the hell doesn't Bubba do 2 minutes worth of research and find that he can get a modern rifle ready to go for no more than his cobble job would cost him ?
Must be the thrill of I did it myself for these knuckle draggers. Same with old cars, they're only new/stock once.
If at first you don't succeed, reload and try again.

Good on you!
LOL!!! The guy I got this one from said he was about to "personalize" it as well, but before he did he was going to offer it up to someone who'd appreciate it as it is.

There is someone trying to sell a "High End Custom Mosin Nagant" on a local trading site. He has done quite a bit if work to this thing, and put a lot of expensive parts on it. He started out asking around $550.00. He has gradually lowered the price, and is now reduced to begging for trades. Another guy keeps bringing a cut up 91/30 to lical shows and has a $230.00 tag on it. I hope all these Bubbas realize they are only devaluing these rifles, and quit.

good save!!
Re: Saved a five line Tula from a bubba
I have asked bubba that exact question, and yes the "joy" of doing it him self and showing off his "skill" is the number one reason for not getting a modern rifle.. Number two is cheap mosin ammo..JoeR wrote:You done good ! Some bubba's don't even know they are a bubba.. Had one guy sanding a stock "gently" tell me he was a purist, and was going to put the original finish back.. I asked him how could he do that he just sanded it off.. He sounded confused after that.
