Original Outers Gunslick Rifle Kit from '40s

Post by kwillindy »

Not sure if anyone here would remember this cleaning kit or not. My dad got it when he got his Remington 511 Scoremaster way back when. Glad I was able to hang onto the original Gunslick and Hoppes #9 bottles and boxes.

I know it well, it's sitting on my table at home right now. :) Still has some of the original chemicals in it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I have an old Hoppies bottle on the bench too. I also have the Outer's 30 cal patches in a box that match that stuff. I won't use any of them because they were my Dad's, and I keep them around to remember him by.

I find a lot of these kits at the flea markets, some look untouched. I found a nice 40's-50's Abercrombie & Fitch kit last year, never touched inside.

Flea markets, huh? Great idea for a new source for these nostalgic items, JYD. I hope that doesn't mean I have to go flea-marketing with my mother-in law!

Thanks for mentioning the bottles and patches, Dolk. Realized I hadn't photo'd them, so here's one. Note the original price tag of 57 cents for the 30 cal Hoppe's patches from Service Merchandise, east side of Indy, circa 1970's. These are keepers from Dad too.

I have hauled thousands of items home from flea markets over the years, in the old days there were guns of all sorts, milsurps included, these days all that is gone, but I still find gear, ammo boxes, edged items, oddball stuff like the cleaning kits.

The most incredible thing to find is the matching rifle or shotgun to go with it. Bought, used little, stored for decades in the closet, and still good as new. And the cleaning kit still just like new.
This one was in a estate sale and was cheaply priced, something like 8 bucks. It fits the 32 caliber pistol and the grease, solvent, and patches are full.
