This is as nice condition as I've seen, which might not be saying much about my experience with American arms. But it really stands out against the rest of the guns in the rack. Enjoy the pics. Thanks for looking.
Late Remington 03-A3: One of my best
Late Remington 03-A3: One of my best
As promised, I had some time today present the pristine cousin of the Smith Corona. It's a 4200492 serial, with a 9-43 barrel. All labeled parts are Remington and it's still has cosmoline in the action. I could clean it, but I can't bring myself to even touch it with a cloth to wipe it down. Crisp, fresh and sharp with just a minor blemish or two. Any ideas on the "SS" stamp on the butstock???

SS is probably a sub contractors stamp, I have Brophy's bible of the .03 someplace, I will look for it in there as soon as I find it. Very nice '03, many of these saw little or no action and stayed looking like new, back in the early 90's I seemed to be picking these up every week, I have a serious '03 addiction
Thanks for shooting the pics, I have a MkI '03 sitting in the corner waiting for my camera one of these days, and then the rest of the collection will follow.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Another great example. There is one in the rack of my gun shop and I have fondled it a few times but .......

That is a very nice 03-A3 I'll admit I think the 03 is my all time favorite rifle, that's example pictured is a once in a lifetime find.

Thank you, all.
At the start of this year, I had no plans to have a 1903 collection. But this gun and its Smith Corona cousin caused me to pause when I found them on the same gun rack in a shop. Would I ever find another opportunity to land one in this condition? It didn't take long to decide. ;)
Shortly afterward, I also liberated two near pristine RIA and Springfield MK-I 1903 examples from the same shop. But those will be stories for other days.
