Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
Repeatedly taking the extractor out is gonna end up breaking it. A flush with water will suffice.

Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
Yea, 1000 times cleaning with hot water, never a problem and I avoid taking that out as much as possible
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
If you take it out every time you clean, that become repeatedly pretty quickly.

OK, enough of this, I don't disassembly the Bolt Head every time I clean the Firearm and I do appreciate
your well meaning advice. I believe this has been fully addressed....

Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
My comments are directed at any newbies that might read this thread, and think it is a good idea to take the extractor out every time you clean. You can do as you please with your rifle. I agree. This has been fully covered.paul6892 wrote:millman wrote:If you take it out every time you clean, that become repeatedly pretty quickly.

But thanks for pointing out that it ain't just the barrel that you have to worry about, Paul. A lot of guys think that cleaning the barrel is all they need to do. They never think about the corrosive salts that get on the bolt. Back in my black powder days, I learned to clean EVERYTHING.

Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
Why would you put cat urine extract down the bore of your Mosin? I say this as I sit here in the shop office were Bucky the shop tomcat sneaked in last night and sprayed all the corners. I am chugging on a cigar in order to not smell that f***in horrible ammonia smell. Cat piss, the smell of the spray paint can that burst in the next room yesterday, and La Gloria Cubana, it's some stink in here.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

They are a good cigar, but not strong enough for this, it still smells like cat piss and paint in here, and now I need another cigar...

Re: Cleaning after Firing Corrosive Ammo
Very informative, gentlemen, thank you. I hadn't known that about not taking apart the bolt repeatedly. You guys saved me some trouble down the line.
