Hi all, thanks for letting me join. My God given name is Steve and I hail from the Buckeye State. I'm not entirely new to Mosins or milsurps, but have a lot to learn. I'll be busy reading posts and ogling posted photos for awhile.

Welcome to the board DanHistoryfan wrote:Making my first post. I'm Dan and I bought a 5-pack of 91/30's to split with my Son and Stepson. All were in very good shape and the one I kept has a Star on the stock. We have shot our rifles a bit, and now we are hooked on the Mosins. Looks like an M44 will be next. I have really learned a great deal by lurking, and glad I joined the ranks.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
I have always wanted to collect WWII long arms. And I started this January. I was picking up my first item, an H & R M1 Garand from Cabelas, and while waiting for the paperwork to go through, I saw that they had about 20 Mosin-Nagant 91/30s in the rack. I checked the prices, and then started browsing for the best specimen. So in one day I got two rifles, the M1 and the Mosin. Just this last week I picked up a re-arsenaled 91/30 that had been outfitted as a PU sniper.
I've got an SVT-40 in route, even as I type.

Hi, I'm George and I recently purchased a M91/30 to stand as a companion to my Mauser K98k. I like the M91/30 more than the Mauser. My MN came with the issue tools and a bayonet, but I am having a problem with the bayonet. I also have a collection of home-built muzzle-loaders which are a nice change of pace from cartridge guns.

Hi, I am new. I have a Hex with no dates. How old could this Mosin be? There is an area on the bolt where it looks like someone tried to hide some markings by covering them up.

New to the forum.
Have a couple mosins of the tula variety; 35 Hex, 37 Round and an m39. I am enjoying learning more about the mosins and the related wartime histories. Lots to learn. Have to be careful as the accumulation of mosins seems to be an addiction.

Welcome to the board, no date? odd, but not unheard of, the Soviets got very sloppy with the markings during the wartime rush, look at the underside of the rear tang on the receiver, there may be a date stamped there, probably just two or three numbers like 43, or 943 ( example)panther wrote:Hi, I am new. Hello everyone!!! Doc A from Indiana here.
I bought my 1st 91/30 two days ago and I think I love it. I said "think" because I've been cleaning it since I brought it home.
I can't wait to fire it for the 1st time, and I'm really looking forward to seeing my wife fire it.
Anyway it's great to be here and I look forward to learning as much as I can about this beautiful piece of history.

Hello everyone! New here to the forums from central coast California.
Got a hex 91/30 mosin a few weeks ago and the moment I brought it home I had it taken apart and was cleaning the thin layer (yes THIN layer) of cosmoline off of it. I fell in love with this rifle the moment I picked on up. the cosmo and all! Took her out to the range last week and broke her in. Good thing I got the 440 round case because I shot 50 rounds up range at 50-75 yards without a single issue. By the time I was done I left their with a smile on my face and a numb shoulder, but all in all, it was well worth it. Someone had their M44 there too... thinking of getting one of those as well.
