I still have the M-1 carbine, but its preserved! I never fire it. I did whenI was young, maybe 150 rounds total. But since she has a sn 88xxx, and is in its original excellent condition, I realized how much its really is worth, and that's where my collecting began!Welcome to the board, I started with a Swiss Vetterli 69/71, but spend the next 20 years or so after that as primarily a US milsurp collector. M1 Carbine, you have to love the War baby's![]()

These areas were set up very quickly as a Soviet puppet state, they had to be armed by the Soviets because the Soviets had taken any factorys they captured and shipped them back to Russia. The East Germans would have produced slings for their own use, as well as use by the rest of the Soviet block countries. By the time the Soviets had built East Germany into anything that could produce products they wouldn't have been using them to produce war reparation items as by then they were a "brother" hard line communist state firmly under Soviet domination and would remain so until 1989. If anything East Germany required Soviet support to remain in business, not the other way around.
I just did some map research about Eiselben's location in relation to the boundaries of former East Germany. It is located in what used to be the heart of the lower 1/3 of East Germany, so you're right, the "Eiselben" sling would have been made for Soviet use, rather than produced as war reparations work under Allied auspices. Good point! I'm glad someone remembers the finer points of history. Thanks!

The Cold War scared the shit out of me again and again while it was going on, some things you never forget. I have many DDR relics in the collection.

You will not hurt that carbine by shooting it, the damage comes from overly enthusiastic cleaning as it must be done from the muzzle end, and wear there will ruin a bore. What will hurt is the cost of the ammo, it ain't cheap anymore, or easy to find.USMC0369 wrote:I still have the M-1 carbine, but its preserved! I never fire it. Hi everyone, I'm Mike
Don't know how I overlooked this forum for so long, but until tonight I never new it existed.
Sure am glad I found it, I'm already learning things I didn't know.
I'm more of a shooter than a collector. So far two 91/30's, m38, and an m44.
None a rare examples, but they sure are fun to shoot.

Hi all. Thanks for sharing all the info on the mosin. I have been shooting mine for about a year and think there's none better. This may sound crazy but while I enjoy shooting it , Man I wish it could talk. It is stamped 1943 and can only wonder what it has been through. It is a start of my collection of world war two rifles. History at it best. Anyway Thanks for all and any help. Bravo

Well, you know it's been through WW2 to start with, 1943-45 part of WW2 anyway. After that the soviets spent a few years putting down all the partisan bands the Nazi's armed and set loose , then it went into storage until you bought it.bravolima57 wrote:Hi all. Welcome to the board, a word about your other question, we do not build rifles here, this is a collectors board with emphasis on original condition, and preservation. We can help you find a non alteration scope mount.agev wrote:New to mosin, not to the 7.62 round. Just making a first post.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Making my first post. I'm Dan and I bought a 5-pack of 91/30's to split with my Son and Stepson. All were in very good shape and the one I kept has a Star on the stock. We have shot our rifles a bit, and now we are hooked on the Mosins. Looks like an M44 will be next. I have really learned a great deal by lurking, and glad I joined the ranks.
