1917 Eddystone

Post by avenger »

My newest milsurp purcahse..bought today..I have always wanted a US firearm with history..this is it..a 1903A was a little out of my price range..this was below it on the shelf and i knew a few on here who had them and loved them..American history with a good price..i like it a lot! obviously its 30-06 like the others :) I walked out the door with it for 450$ + tax which the gunstore was doing a deal so my tax went to a box of ammo instead.. gotta stock up on more 30-06 now :P anyhow here are the pics..see what you guys think :)

Here it was In the room below an M1..why these beautiful american rifles were in the Class III room with a bunch of autos was beyond me (some sexy thompsons a STG44 mp40, M3 Grease gun and MG 42 are the main WW2 autos in there anyways..) I saw the M1 and drooled.. 1,300 $ though.. nah cant do it.. 1903 900$ still eh.. 1917 Eddy 500$ oooh gotta have!

Image

After i got a hold of it and looked at all the markings and such..and the bore which is amazing looking...all seems to be good. I took it home..and they gave me 50$ off the 500$ so awesome..here are my at home pics!

Check for all the arsenal marked parts. Here's a good reference for an original parts Eddystone.

Think about that for a moment, would you feel comfortable knowing that the rifle sitting on the gun rack in your room killed somebody's daddy, husband, brother, maybe he was a soldier, or just a civilian in the wrong place, or one of our own in a friendly fire incident. Not everybody in the opposing army was a monster, most were just ordinary working stiffs dragged into a war they would have otherwise done without. They had family's, hopes and dreams that ended in a pool of blood and bowels far from home, in great pain and suffering, and very likely alone. If some magical force could tell you the rifles kill score maybe it could tell you the names of the dead, and what they left behind as well. We know there is a good possibility that these things we collect have been used to take life, maybe many lives, but we don't, and can't know for sure. Most of the time anyway, sometimes you do know some of it, maybe it's score marks left on the wood, or maybe you get it from a veteran who tells you the circumstances of the rifles capture, or use. Or maybe you do a stupid ass thing like have it tested with Luminol and it glows like a neon light. When you know that about a weapon in your collection you never look at it the same way again.
