My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
Hi,
Thanks to some direction from posters on this forum, I made the Finnish M39 my first Mosin purchase. Picked it up yesterday and I have to say, without shooting it yet, I am very impressed. Beautiful war time stock, nice fit and finish in everything I can see and a very crisp trigger pull makes this one heck of a war horse. I am excited for it to warm up here in WI so I can take it out to the range and properly break it in. Pictures are attached. Thanks again everyone on the forum!

Very nice! You're going to love shooting the m39. Just got my first one two weeks ago and it put an ear to ear grin on my face.

Nice purchase. She is a beauty.
You need to pull her apart and check the tang date
.
I'm broke because I buy milsurps. I'm rich because I buy what I enjoy.

Nice rifle. Welcome to the forum.
Re: My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
Thanks for the positive feedback guys. First Mosin purchase but won't be my last. You all have been great advisors and this forum has been a fountain of information. One question I have about my rifle... while it is entirely rock solid, one part I can feel slightly move. The second picture, top left part of the stock just left of the sights. Not sure what you would call that piece of the stock. Anyways, it has some give to it. Any way to fix this to make it feel more solid or is this normal for a rifle of this age? And, by "give" I mean a very small feeling of movement sometimes when I grab that part of the stock. Still, it kind of bugs me but I can live with it. Any advice?
Thanks guys!

Hey,
Might be just Loose a bit from shrikage,,,, all the top Handguards on my 91/30s move a bit also,, you could try to take the top piece off and get some thing double stick tape and put underneath the top part to stop movement, doesnt alter anything and you wouldnt know its there,,,,, just a thought.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I think you're referring to the handguard Brandon. It's pretty common and nothing to worry about.karlb1025 wrote:Thanks for the positive feedback guys. First Mosin purchase but won't be my last. Re: My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
nice looking rifle... you will love it.. until another catches your eye that is
Re: My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
I have several m39s and it has been my experience that most if not all has some movement in the handguard. It is normal and nothing to worry about.
Re: My new M39. First Mosin Ngant Impressions
Very Nice!!! Be careful when taking it apart that are no loose shims which the Finns put in to tune the rifle. Both my M39s have them though on mine they are fastened into the stock.
