Hey SKS guys
I know Mosins, Mausers and Enfields but not a lot about SKS's. One of 2 guns that started me on this collection madness is a '59 Romanian SKS. It came to me in a Tapco stock and a nice gray patina. I got a Yugo stock(?) off ebay and put it back in wood but I would like to get it back in a correct stock. As I understand it the Romanians are not stock numbered. I'm not trying to fool anybody I just want it as close as possible for my own satisfaction. The question here is am I correct about the stock numbering and do you have any idea where I might get or find a correct Romanian stock and what would be a fair price? Thanks for any help you may give. OO told me to ask here. Thanks.

Re: Hey SKS guys
Romanian SKS's are largely serial stock numbered, though it's rare for them to match, I'm sure there are some that don't have numbers, but all of them I've seen do. I have a '57 that matches, the '59 no where even close to matching. Also, they commonly have the "C" in the diamond(Cugir arsenal), arrow in the triangle(looks very much like the Izhevsk mark) plus other various markings behind the receiver.
As for replacements, I would suspect the usual suspects, GunBroker, Ebay ect.

I said I was an addict. I didn't say I had a problem.
Re: Hey SKS guys
one of mine is numbered and the other is not on my 2 1960 dated rifles
Re: Hey SKS guys
As Greasemonkey has stated, the Romanians will have serial numbers on the left buttstock, with a few exceptions. The stocks, themselves, are not always easy to find. A correct type of wood will be beech.
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....
