New Stalingrad Movie
Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Crap its in IMAX theatres and the closest to me is Pittsburgh and I hate going up there! The next closest is Columbus Ohio! Of course it is all over the place if I still lived in Delaware! Bill

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
I got the last DVD from amazon.
Looking at the local Imax here in Harrisburg, I don't see it listed but I'll keep an eye out for it. I think it will be pretty cool to see in 3d.

Monument Men opens tomorrow around here and I plan to see that if the weather cooperates. Right now I have a dusting of little icy ball bearing like projectiles on the driveway and I don't plan on going out because getting back up the drive even with my AWD Subaru can be an unnerving experience. Got plenty of food and have electric too so far! Weekend looks like it could be a snowout too! Bill
Re: New Stalingrad Movie
I saw Monument Men yesterday and while I found it entertaining it is not very historically correct. It has several actors whose work I enjoy and among them John Goodman was hysterically funny at times. I heard the complaint from the critics that the people were not introduced in a way that you should know them but found that to be totally incorrect for anyone with a basic WW2 knowledge. Got to see it for the afternoon $5 price and with $3.50 in popcorn and a 16 mile round trip in a quiet and comfortable theater with few people present to not be bank breaking in anyway. I would say the 2.5 rating out of 5 to be about what I would say too. The world will not end if you miss it but I did enjoy it. Bill

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
I will see it when it hits Netflix.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Saw this a week or so ago, the PU sniper rifle is the only Mosin I saw in the film and it hade a blade front sight and a Kornalov rear sight.
Re: New Stalingrad Movie
The young kid sniper was shooting an M95 Steyr without a scope, at least that is what was resting against the table when they got him. Which one are you talking about and when? Bill

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Yeah one week and then it supposedly goes back to Russia and never returns. Know they could make western money off Netflix and such but they say no? Doesn't make much sense knowing their usual operating motives. With people saying they have already seen it I wonder how it has waited this long to be on the east coast? The original releases on it said one week only nationwide. Maybe we are talking about two different movies and that has confused people. This one is supposedly in 3D and they are scheduling it for Imax Moviehouses only. Bill

If it's on DVD then you can see it anytime, it's been sitting on my desk for two weeks now.

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
As with just about anything Russian Bill it's confusing and doesn't make much sense to us but for now it is what it is. We're all talking about the same movie here. My thoughts on the one week only release schedule is that I would bet 98% of Americans couldn't care less about a Russian IMAX film about Stalingrad. Heck, I think they did pretty good to even get it released in US theatres. If you can't make it to an IMAX near you to see it then I would imagine it will be available on Netflix soon if it already isn't and if you want the DVD for your collection it is available from Amazon:zeebill wrote:Yeah one week and then it supposedly goes back to Russia and never returns. There is one PU sniper, and he tries to train the woman in the movie how to shoot with it.zeebill wrote:The young kid sniper was shooting an M95 Steyr without a scope, at least that is what was resting against the table when they got him. Which one are you talking about and when? Bill

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Next door neighbor in the late '50's was a veteran of the Africa Corps campaign and recovered of wounds being sent to Austria and then was sent to the Eastern Front and survived the Russian Camps and got home in 1949. He found his father and mother had died during his interment, but made a new life.
Loved life and attempted to experience it though women that he not known during those years, especially South American, and Mexican. His passport picture was in his German uniform from the 1940' prior to the Russian campaign.
He was fluent in many languages, and was a true friend and guidance consular.

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Watched this one last night, thanks to Titanium Hammer lending me his copy of the movie. It's an interesting movie. It would probably be better called "My mothers house in Stalingrad". Just "Stalingrad" seems a bit overly ambitious as a title for this movie. Don't know why but the main officer character kept reminding me of Ron Livingston in "Band of Brothers". The subtitles start off doing a reasonable job but by the end I think the translators were getting either tired or bored. It's interesting that the Germans were actually speaking German but then you have the Russian "translation" talking over them, all while reading the English subtitles! I was keeping up with the german to a point but the Russian voice over made it tougher. That being said, I don't speak german anyhow but you watch enough WWII movies you kind of pick some things up! It's a decent enough movie so I don't regret the time spent watching it. If I forked over tons of cash at IMAX, I might have been a bit disappointed. A Netflix view, absolutely. Buying on DVD, I could maybe justify it (my wife would not agree but its not her cup of tea anyhow). $25 per person at the theater? Well, there's probably a good reason why it's only going to be around for a week.

Same here! I thought maybe Titanium Hammer was joking with me and put the wrong DVD in the case! My wife also said "I thought you said this was a Russian movie?".BuckeyeSgt wrote:When it started out with the Japanes tsunami I thought I got duped and got the wrong movie!

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Come on guys, I posted the whole opening plot on here about 3 months ago along with the "love interest" part that was written in on the eve of the first day of filming. Leave it to the Russians to incorporate the recent disaster at Fukushima into a movie about Stalingrad. I figured the Antunov would have you scratching your heads.
