Justyne_Tyme wrote:Hi! I'm Jennifer (or Justyne :) ) After many years of looking at Mosins in various stores and being talked out of them by my husband (who normally supports my gun habit) today I found one that called to me and was an awesome price. It's a 91/30, barrel stamped 1913. From the looks of the black grime I cleaned out of the barrel, it's been well used, but not abused or modified. I'm looking forward to doing more research on it through the serial number while I wait for slightly warmer weather so I can head to the range!!
Welcome to the board Justyne, 1913 would be a very odd date to find stamped on a Mosin M91/30, could be you have acquired a M1891 rifle, this is the older brother of the 91/30. From the bore description it's been around and used, not common 0f the typical Soviet refurbished 91/30. An M1891 first Mosin is a very cool find, SA in a rectangle stamped on the barrel shank near the date? Serial number will not help you on this one, the Russians were known to swap numbers around mid stream to confuse any enemy finding the rifle from deducing production totals by the serial numbers. Here in the states we didn't care if the enemy knew we have just made M1 Garand number six million, but the Russians are more secretive about their arms production, they have not shared production totals then or now.

Hi, names Chris. I have a few run of the mill Mosin Nagants and just started to get into collecting them. So far I have a Izhevsk 91/59, Izhevsk M.O 38:50, and pre-1968 import/bring back? 1943 Izhevsk. I'm working a middleman to get my first collectible, a Chatelleraut modified 91/38 Carbine.

Welcome to the board Chris, you already have collectables, the 91/59, that '43, and the other Mosins are all collectables. :)

Hi. I'm Ron. Just got my first Nagant only a couple of weeks ago, still in cosmo. Been collecting firearms for some time now.
I live in the oil sands in northern Alberta, Canada, where it gets very cold here in winter.
Thank you.

That's a nice looking one! Did it come with the sling? Got mine at Cabela's as well, but no sling and had to buy the bayonet, oil can and tool kit separate. No complaints though; on sale for $149 here plus $12 for the kit, but after rewards points, coupon and gift card for renewing NRA membership, I paid less than $30 including taxes!

Hello all. I'm J.D. and I'm new to the forum world. I know some about Mosin-Nagants, but am in need of secondary and tertiary opinions. Thank you.
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.

Hi, glad to be here. My name is Henry and I have been a collector of Ruger single actions for many years. I have always been interested in any and all firearms. Within the past year I really got interested in Mosin Nagants and in particular the Finnish ones, especially the m39s. Doing research on mosins I continued to come across this forum so I decided to be a member. This forum is one of the best that I have found on mosin/finnish rifles. Thanks, Henry

Hello Henry, and welcome to the board, the M39 is as good as a Mosin gets, excellent focus for a collection while they can still be had.
