Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Thanks for the tip about bayonet fitting. If I were a millionaire like you, I could afford all those guns and bayonets, so swapping would not be an issue. But what would the Russians have done to find a bayonet that fit, at the arsenal, in the barracks, or in the field, once all their buddies refused to give up their matched sets? What do the Russians 'always do', but, build with iron and bang it into submission.

I sure wish the government would do the same.

Got my first Mosin Nagant 91/30. Took it to the range and it shoots good. Besides bayonet all numbers are matching. It’s little beat up but very nice.

Welcome to the board Larrie, Finn marked rifles tend to be good shooters, but this is almost 100 years old, has seen two world wars, it has to be judges as an individual rifle, the only way to know how it will shoot is to test it on the range.tugboat wrote:Hi I have just joined as I am looking at a1916 Westinghouse with an SA stamped on it, at a dealer in Oz, and would like to know if they are good shooters
if in good cond. are more a collectors item.I shoot in a service rifle club here in Australia.

If monopoly money were only real I would be a millionaire, I bought Mosins when they were cheap, all you need is four or five bayonets to swap around, that's an investment of maybe $125, or less. If you plan to pick up more 91/30's and most here end up doing that, then you can use the extras to fit one to the next rifle. Any you don't want you can trade off or resell, they don't lose their value. The Russians fit the bayonets to each rifle at the arsenal, and they were left mounted all the time, the Russians didn't issue scabbards for bayonets. It's the fault of lazy US importers who couldn't be bothered to sort the bayonets out in the crates and match them to the rifles they belonged to. They just grabbed the first bayonet that came to hand and gave it to you that way.craiginct wrote:Thanks for the tip about bayonet fitting. Hi everybody--
I'm Steve and I'm the proud new owner of a 1942 Izhevsk-built rifle. This is my first rifle (I own a .38 S&W snub, but the rifle is another animal entirely!) and I'm really enjoying learning my way around the weapon. I'm looking forward to gleaning some knowledge from all you guys!

Hi! I'm Jennifer (or Justyne
) After many years of looking at Mosins in various stores and being talked out of them by my husband (who normally supports my gun habit) today I found one that called to me and was an awesome price. It's a 91/30, barrel stamped 1913. From the looks of the black grime I cleaned out of the barrel, it's been well used, but not abused or modified. I'm looking forward to doing more research on it through the serial number while I wait for slightly warmer weather so I can head to the range!!

Welcome to the board Jaye, most Type 53' s have that look because they were not refurbished at government expense before you got it. It's what most milsurps look like after taking a long walk through history. Cool start to the collectionjayedawg17 wrote:Hi! I'm Jaye.
