1930 no.1 mk III
1930 no.1 mk III
The gun shows have been very good to me lately. I picked up this (amongst other things) Enfield for $200. it appears that the stock has the serial numbers stamped on the underside up by the nose piece/bayo lug. I have to thank you guys on this for forum helping me out with these Enfields. I think I did alright with this one.
Let me know if there is anything that stands out with this one.

I'm broke because I buy milsurps. I'm rich because I buy what I enjoy.
Re: 1930 no.1 mk III
I'm guessing many more Germans than moose.

Looks like I'm wrong on the date. You can barley make out what looks like 1917 on the wrist area. The 1930 on the other side must be a refurb or update mark. I still only know enough about these Enfields to get into trouble.

Definitely 1917 manufacture, the mark on wrist is either a unit mark or a government mark or both for whomever took possession of the rifle in 1930. Usually the arrow was placed on rifles that went to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, without a reference I'm only able to say enough to get myself in trouble also.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I have been scouring the pages of The Enfield Story on this one and can't quite put my finger on it, but I really like it. I think it was made in the Enfield factory as marked on the left side of the receiver butt stalk. But I am thinking the right side stamps are Rifle Factory Ishapore (India). Was it sent there in 1930? Confused

The book is so full of info that it is kind of information overload. Knowing that you got this for 200 bucks is really encouraging. The deals are out there but not always easy to find.
Re: 1930 no.1 mk III
I should really get a book that covers these. There are so many variations with the Enfields.

....wweeeeelllll yea but that number is slowly going the other way. Eventually the moose count will exceed the german count.fintowin wrote:I'm guessing many more Germans than moose.

Congrats on the Enfield, that's a very nice looking rifle, and in my opinion a bargain at $200.00!

The one I bought back in the 90's is $300-$500 now. Maybe they will republish it one day.fintowin wrote:I should really get a book that covers these. There are so many variations with the Enfields.

I've got one on the way and can't wait to see it, I've seen many pictures but never a real one before. Hope I can find a bayonet for it once it arrives.
Very nice rifle you have there.

The great thing about these is that with a bag of brass and some reloading tools you can shoot these fairly cheap. They are really great to shoot.

I reload for this caliber. I like to use cast bullets sometimes, but usually use 175-180 grn jacketed bullets. I really like shooting these No.1'sbunkysdad wrote:The great thing about these is that with a bag of brass and some reloading tools you can shoot these fairly cheap. They are really great to shoot.
