It's been a while since I purchased an imported rifle. I see that the importer's marks are now displayed in all their glorious splendor (not...).
Each of the Mosins recently received have an importer's serial number etched in with the import markings.
Question: Is this new serial number the rifle's official number (like for record book purposes)?
Thanks, David
Importer Serial Numbers
Re: Importer Serial Numbers
The # in the billboard on the receiver is the official Serial #.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Re: Importer Serial Numbers
Okay, there is the original number on the top of the receiver (which matches other numbers on the parts), and there's the importer's number included with all their markings. I'm assuming the "billboard" is the latter of the two? So the newly etched number assigned by the importer is the guns "official" serial number?
