Sons first rifle
My son wanted to get a rifle with his birthday money. Stopped by the local pawn shop on the way back from doing the big shop and we picked this up for $100.

Nice grab

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Only way it'd be better is if it were "Granddaddy's Gun". Excellent choice!

Old single shot Remington. Nice. You will love how these shoot.
Re: Sons first rifle
Great job!
I just picked up a Remington 512 Sportmaster a couple weeks ago for $100.00. It was produced in May of 1949.

My old Remington is just a few years older and has a tube mag. It's a model 341. I have another 341 that is missing the bolt. If I ever find a bolt it will likely cost a hundred bucks for the bolt. I have seen several for sale and they are not cheap.

Re: Sons first rifle
Here's a pic of another boys first rifle, my dad's.
A Winchester 67, around eighty years old. If I had all the cases of .22 ammo that's been through that rifle, I'd be a rich man. Particularly at today's prices. One of my dad's favorite stories was of using this rifle to shoot 37 blackbirds all at once. They were all sitting in a line on his mom's clothesline. He positioned himself just right, aiming down the clothesline. Trouble was, the bullet cut the clothesline, too. I need to point out that blackbirds were a tremendous nuisance for a depression era family that grew small fruit. They still are, for that matter. Anyway, the old 67 still shoots true. I hope your son gets as much use out of the Remington. And passes it on to HIS great grandson.

Sweet little rifle. I picked up a Score Master 511 a short while back and it is a great accurate little shooter. He will have a great time with it.
You did good Dad.

Re: Sons first rifle
Very good. I gave my grandson his first rifle two years ago. An Ithica Model 49 lever action falling block.
