Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Has anyone used this aftermarket rail before? I just came across it on Youtube and had not seen anything like it before. I want to put a scope on my Nagant but definitely do not want to put holes in it for the mount... seems like this one doesn't require any permanent mods.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
That thing looks like the spindliest piece of crap I have ever seen! The scout mounts that are out there look to be a lot stronger and less liable to movement than that would be. Thing looks like it's mounted on a rear view mirror bracket. Bill
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
The video speaks for itself. He has a scope and one shot was a foot or more to the left and the next shot was 2 or 3 feet over the top and to the right, ya I think not.

Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Take a look at the Brass Stacker scope mount. It requires no permanent mods and it's good quality.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Brass stacker is picatinny works by removing 2 pins in sight and bolting in place for long eye relief scope. also can still use iron sights up to around a 100 yards. You have a chin weld instead of cheek to use scope.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
I agree with the previous posts that it looks wobbly and ineffectivenick101 wrote:I want to put a scope on my Nagant but definitely do not want to put holes in it for the mount... seems like this one doesn't require any permanent mods.
I'm broke because I buy milsurps. I'm rich because I buy what I enjoy.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Yeah, it looks pretty slim for such a powerful rifle... I'm not sure if it's the mount or the fact that the guy isn't a great shot though. The groupings look like they land in about the same spot. I think it's when he reloads his aim is off. What do you guys think of the cheapo scout mounts that are all over eBay? I'd have to get a long eye relief scope though.

The most solid mount that does not alter the rifle is Darrel's mount, but you can't get them unless you find a used one. The next solid mount is the S&K mount. Solid and lower then most.
These cheap mounts like above and on Ebay will not hold zero. That has been proven time after time. We hear it all the time.

Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Please do correct me if I'm wrong but I understood it as "permanent" modifications to the rifle; which I totally agree with. That's why I was searching for a full length rail that would allow me to use a standard scope that doesn't require tapping into the receiver (risky!). The more and more I think about it, I really don't like scopes with long eye reliefs... tried out a friend's and it just doesn't have that "sniper" feel to it...paul6892 wrote:Gents, forgive me but I'mI was told not to discuss modifying Mosins on this Forum

Can anyone recommend any other mounts like the MN2014 Mosin Nagant Rail in the video with a full rail? There has to be other choices out there!

You are correct. As long as it's not a permanent alteration it's ok to ask but it still raises the hair on the back of a lot of guys necks. This is primarily a preservation forum and even though stuff like this isn't permanent it's taking the rifle away from it's original design. That said there's quite a few guys on here with older eyes that like to be able to shoot and see what they're shooting at so they use scopes with non permanent mounts like this but it still makes a lot of guys cringe to see them.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Now here this !
This is not a "permanent" modification" and I'm one of those older guys that needs a scope beyond about 40 yds, I found this out when I was
at the Range with my Mosins and SKS.
As an Experiment I'm trying this out on my M38
The "Brass Stacker", Mosin Nagant M9130 or M9159 See Thru Scout Scope Mount will not work on a M38 or M44.
It is NOT a top of the line Reflex Red/Green Dot Sight and Picatinny /Weaver rail, so not a lot of $$'S invested if it won't hold Zero

I was thinking of putting a S&K mount on mine but only just for moose hunting.I would remove it after moose season.

Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
At the distance he is shooting at in that video I could do some mean work on those targets with just the iron sights. About the only scout mount worth anything in my book is the daryls mount, but I personally prefer Iron sights.nick101 wrote:Has anyone used this aftermarket rail before? Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
I know the brass stacker holds zero on 91/30 even with inexpensive leatherwood /hilux ler 308 bdc Even after "friend" didn't zip up and rifle bounced off ground.
Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
I checked out the Brass Stacker; looks okay but kinda utilitarian looking and the long eye-relief thing kinda bugs... I don't want to have to buy a whole new scope. I guess the biggest issue is that I have an M44 so this won't even fit on mine. I just did a search on eBay and found the Nagant rail in the video listed for $78 free shipping and they're offering 100% money back guarantee, so I'm thinking what can I lose, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mosin-Nagant-Fu ... 3f2f91150e says it fits M44, M38, M91/38 Mosin Nagant variations.paul6892 wrote:Now here this !

I tried that mount, it comes loose very quickly. I have a scope on one 91/30 using the dovetail under the rear sights, my carbines are all back to iron sights.paul6892 wrote:Now here this !

I will never scope a regular mosin EVER. I am blind as a bat but still have the fun shooting. The scopes look wrong on the old girls. I will leave more ninja rails for you guys
(j/k) the fun is learning to shoot good with the old iron sights. If you can shoot good with irons you can shoot anything. Plus even blind me can see 2ft gongs
If you cant see the target....MAKE IT BIGGER

Re: Picatinny rail for Mosin Nagant?
Making the Target Bigger is fine on a practice Range, not in the Real World, if that time should come

Kinda hard turning a 1200lbs moose into a 2000lbs moose..
