Scope for M39?

Post by karlb1025 »

What do you recommend? Are there scopes out there from the time period that are still very functional and affordable? I want to take my rifle deer hunting here in WI.

Let me know what you think!

Brandon, these do make good deer rifles, at ranges of 100-200 yards but with the iron sights. There isn't really a proper mounting system for the M39 without doing permanent damage to the receiver which we wouldn't want to consider doing because of our stand on preserving milsurp rifles. As for the many models and variations of Mosin Nagants that are out there the M39 has the best sights that you can get.

I'm surprised people even bothered hunting before the scope was invented. You can get different front sights for the M39 to zero in your normal range. Then use a rangefinder will help with adjusting the rear sights while hunting. Soft point ammo will help bring the deer down.

The deer close to our house live in a large park that was built around a flood control lake. I ride bicycles for exercise through there in the mornings. The deer are so used to seeing people that they don't move and on more than one occasion I've almost hit one. Most of the time they walk over to the side just far enough that when I ride by I could reach out and slap them. It might be the only place you could hunt deer with a knife or harder yet a Nagant revolver. :D
