Happy to say I bought my first mosin nagant rifle. I love it, and great price in general. I paid 205 for mine after everything, but I got everything with it. It's a 1943 from Izhevsk. Great condition! All matching serials (929) except the bayonet. Here are some pictures
Cosmoline removal
Stock finish. Not posting the rest as they are not permitted here.
Has a real "sticky icky" feel to the stock finish
Thats it so far. I love it. Cleaned the bolt real well and got rid of all the cosmo. Can't wait to shoot this baby.
I do have some Okie headspace testers on the way before I do.
That's looks like a great refurbished Russian M1891/30! Congratulations! 1943 Izhevsk wartime finish on the metal, very attractive postwar stock. Did the bayonet serial no. match? You have all of the accessories that the refurbs from Ukraine come with. And welcome to the forum!

What a great rifle. I almost "pulled the trigger" on my first 1943 91/30 earlier this week that was in great shape. The thought of breaking it all down like you did sounds daunting. Hoping it's not as difficult as it looks. Great photos. Hope it shoots well!
Glad to see a new convert. Really glad you took it apart for cleaning. If you have any problems you can find instructions. After I found a refurb with a very loose sear screw I worry about people just taking then out and shooting them. Plus trying to push that bullet through all the grease?
My first was a 43 Izhevsk.
The "sticky icky" is cosmoline seeping out of the stock. Do not succumb to the temptation to "clean" or refinish the stock.
I have a big bag full of clean, unused rags from the local hardware store on hand at all times. I use these to gently wipe off the stocks on my rifles from time to time.
Nice looking refurb. Its nice to get one that has the numbers restamped to match instead of lined out or electro penciled to match. Let us know how she shoots and welcome!

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Congratulations on a great looking rifle. You have to love the war time rush they did on the barrel shank, gives it so much extra character. Like many here, 1943 was my first Mosin as well. My wallet has gotten significantly lighter since that time. My 15th is due to arrive on Monday!
Be sure to put up a range report after you get done shooting with it the first time! Always interesting to see what everyones first impressions of them are!

Looks like a nice find. Plent of cosmo in that oil can, huh?! Just finished initial cleaning on my 1934 Tula Hex, although I did not remove trigger/spring, front sight, or mag catch spring. Time to shoot it. Just brought #2 home: 1942 Izhevsk
Congratulations on your first Mosin! Your second will follow soon! My first was the same exact year maker. To date it's still my best shooter. Enjoy it, don't bubba it and welcome to RMNF.
