New Stalingrad Movie
So the new Stalingrad DVD I ordered from Amazon came yesterday afternoon. It made it to Washington State in 3 days from the east coast. Props to the US Postal Service and the seller on Amazon. Definitely the highest production value in a Russian movie that I have ever seen. The subtitles were also done pretty well and aside from a few misspellings and grammatical errors they were very good and easy to follow. Not too much in the way of Mosins (one 91/30 sniper kill shot) and there were a few over the top scenes but overall, it wasn't bad. I was expecting a more knock down drag out fight scene movie but it was a fairly interesting. Definitely the most "Hollywood" style high budget war movie that I've ever scene come out of Russia. If you want it from Amazon here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Stalingrad-Wor...rds=stalingrad $20 plus a few bucks for shipping.

If you want lots of Mosins and battle scenes - buy a copy of Talvisota. You won't be disappointed. Especially since, by your avatar, it looks like you like Finns.

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Found it on eBay for $17 and change. Be careful as there have been many Stalingrad movies out there from different eras, you want the 2013 version.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yeah, I've got quite a large collection of Finn, Russian, German, and South Korean war movies. Talvisota definitely has some serious Mosin porn in it!Knuckledragger wrote:If you want lots of Mosins and battle scenes - buy a copy of Talvisota. You won't be disappointed. Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Around February the 28th I believe there is one of Stalingrad made in Russia being released in movie houses. It will probably be hard to find but worth the view if you find it. I just saw Lone Survivor in the movie house Tuesday night and I had a tough time watching and almost walked out a couple of times but I toughed it out. I don't know what they did to film the RPG's but they dang sure looked way to real and had the hair on the back of my neck standing at attention. Horrible dam weapon and has taken way too many of our fighting people, even the dang wounds they showed were way too real. The Monument People or whatever it is called looks like I will go see it too. Most I have ever planned or gone to the movies in years, like 3 times. Bill

Last movie I saw in the movie house was Saving Private Ryan back in the late 90's

Like many of you, I've watched and read a lot about Stalingrad. I'll not fault anyone for trying, but I'm not sure that it's even possible to make a 2-3 hour movie that comes anywhere near treating this battle in the way that it should be.
There are several YouTube offerings in the form of interviews with German survivors that are quite good.

Early show senior rates are $5.50 and popcorn and a soda add up close to $10 and for a night out that cheap I get off my butt about maybe 3 times a year or so. Beats sitting in front of a computer rusting away in my mind? Personal contact and dealing with other people is healthier for sure! Yes Bill, this is the Stalingrad movie that will be released here in the US on the 28th of February. I think it's only being released in IMAX theatres though which will limit just how many people can see it if that's true. I too saw Lone Survivor during a matinee on the day it was released. Tough movie to sit through that's for sure but one every American should see.zeebill wrote:Around February the 28th I believe there is one of Stalingrad made in Russia being released in movie houses. The public sucks, and as a semi hermit I hate being out in public with all the nutjobs, some of them shooting up movie houses for the hell of it. Dangerous lunatics on the loose out there, that's why I my friends and I attend movie night in front of the gigantic LED TV with full surround system, ice box 20 feet away, head 10 feet away, never any food or drink spilled on the couch and easy chairs, pause button in case we need to stop and make fun of the movie.

That one new movie is supposed to be 3D and only in theaters for about 2 weeks the end of February. Probably be in every state but WV as usual! Oh well the neighbor sates are a short for me interstate drive away. Want to see Monument men too. Bill

Re: New Stalingrad Movie
Sadly Bill I think it's only supposed to be in theatres here in the US for one week beginning at the end of February. Here's the quote from a Russian magazine article that came out a few days ago:zeebill wrote:That one new movie is supposed to be 3D and only in theaters for about 2 weeks the end of February. Probably be in every state but WV as usual! Oh well the neighbor sates are a short for me interstate drive away. Want to see Monument men too. Bill
"At the end of February, the Russian 3D film, “Stalingrad,” will have a one-week engagement in theaters across the United States; “Stalingrad” became Russia’s box office record holder in 2013, grossing $66 million in its six-week run."
