It's been said that if you know how many guns you have, you don't have enough.
Damn, I guess that I need more!

And yes, I have a fair range of calibers. Nothing compared to JYD though. :beek:

I've got one or two guns in one or two calibers

As many calibers and guns floats your boat, I'm sure most of us ate noodles a time or two or had the wife really pissed at us, it's the ugly part of the hobby. But, your in control of your finances and collection, get what you like and makes you happy or want to spend money on. No since in setting a limit. Most of the time, the limit will be broken, it happens to best of us. Like a few here I have one or two ammo is very hard to get or impossible to find. A 10.4×38Rmm or .41 Swiss rimfire is a prime example, a Swiss Vetterli while it is an interesting weapon to look at and hold, it's also like a historical piece of art.

Then you can get side tracked, how many different variations or countries of one type of ammo can you find and get, and poof, you start collecting ammo. It's a cheap replacement(fix) for when you can't afford a gun or at a show that has nothing really interesting gun wise, kinda tides you over for bit, cause you found and got something interesting. Over the years I've collected many variations of x39 and x54r and a few variations other calibers I have, like 7mm and 8mm. Or, you buy and collect ammo for a weapon you don't even own

gurn wrote:Don't limit yourself and there is no science to it. Like others have said get what you like and like what you get. One thing that has always worked for me and has given me a good supply is getting to gun shows early making the rounds quickly and watching for those small timers setting up selling just a few things. I have picked up many a box or bag of various ammo at old time prices. I usually get even better deals when I buy all they have on the table. I think the only gun I have that I have no ammo for is my French service revolver model 1873 Chamelot-Delvigne. JYD, do you have any 11mm French ammo?
Probably, buried within the dungeons are several cartridge accumulations I got when buying out entire collections back in the old days. Finding it in there would take Indiana Jones half a lifetime .

At first I tried to limit myself to cheap calibers but all that went out the window with the K98 . 680 rounds of surplus put me back. Also I still havent drop the money to handload 6.5x55s safe enough for my krag yet and even yet I need to have it looked at by a gunsmith just to be safe. The money keeps disappearing. :chuckles: :chuckles:

So far, hmmm...8 ammo cans + 2 cases (4 spam cans) and the top of the safe, plus 2 muscle rack shelves of reloading components. I need more.

I still like Ramen. Sometimes I don't add the MSG pack and instead flavor it like a real soup. Add some cooked Bacon, leaks or chives, onions and paperika along with some pepper, and boil that mixture before adding the noodles.

Now I also have to deal with the " watch the carbs" bullshit because of the type 2 diabetes, so even the noodles are a rare treat.

I always tell my wife, "If you know how many guns you have, you don't have enough" The same logic can be applied to ammo. :popgun:

:chuckles: "Sufficient?" I am still trying to figure out how that word even applies to buying guns and ammo. I am 66 and have been buying guns since my Dad bought me a new Cooey 39 when I was about 11 or 12.

I buy just whatever rings my bell, and buy ammo especially when it is on sale. I feel for you guys that have to suffer the ammo shortages. I often jokingly say that I have enough ammo in my magazine to hold off the Chinese Army for at least three months of heavy fighting.

I lean mostly to nice old military rifles, but wander into .22's, shotguns, and so forth, on occasion. At this precise moment, I have a really nice old Model 50 Winchester 12ga. At my feet on the living room floor. To balance things out, I also bought a scrubbed and refurbed VZ24, complete with bayonet and scabbard. Some of those scruffy old Mosin Nagants have a wonderful trail attached to them. I don't necessarily get any thrill out of the sordid history of the wars they may have been used in, but I love to look at the stampings and review the written word regarding the various variants.

I enjoy my "old army rifles". :)
GOOD RIDDANCE LGR!! If there isn't a gun range in heaven, then I'm going to hell.
