Hello everyone, been collecting Mosin Nagants and other milsurps for 12 years now, first time I really noticed this forum. With my Mosins, I specialize in non Finnish captured, original matching Soviet 91/30s. Hope to learn some new info here!

Just jailed by first Mosin. I pick her up in 8 days. I'll be in touch with the forum once I get her and have questions.

Hi, I'm Joe, picked up a new Mosin just after Christmas. I live in California. Boy...cosmoline is fun. Learning how to disassemble the whole thing to get rid of the cosmoline was even more fun. but, I have had it apart, cleaned, even the bolt apart and cleaned. Haven't gotten my headspace gauge yet but ordered one. Bolt and pin look like new, crown is perfect.
It is a hex made in 1931. has electro markings that say something about georgia, (i'm assuming soviet georgia and not down south)

bought 4 boxes of MFS ammo, Heading out to the range tonight. (unless someone says wait until the headspace is checked) Also got that package they sell at big 5 with the scope and sling abd rubber butt pad. Sling was not included wih mine but bayonet, and two ammo pouches and all the tools were.

Firing pin protrusion is dead on. My question is, should I take it out and sight it in, or, should I wait to check the headspace. I'm thinking as good as the crown is the headspace is probably pretty good too, but, don't want anything blowing up in my face either.

Thanks, look forward to comments as I'm sure after shooting I'll have lots more questions.

Welcome to the board Joe, always best to check headspace before firing the rifle. Otherwise, when the mortician is pulling the receiver fragments out of your skull, headspace gauges aren't much use.

New to this forum and the Mosin Nagant. I bought one from Cabela's in December to start my collection--A '42 Izhvesk. Wife bought me one for Christmas--A '35 Izhvesk barrel on a '38 receiver. Told her with that one, she officially made it a collection, and I could not be responsible for any further rifles. Well, last week got a '25 Izhvesk ex-Dragoon. I'm hooked.

Hi, new to the board, but a long time of appreciating these cool rifles/carbines. I wish they could tell me their stories sometimes. Anyways, hope to be a helpful contributing member here. Thanks for having me!

My name is Greg and I'm from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts. I joined because I can't stand not being able to see some of the pics that have been posted.
I only have ONE Mosin. It's a 1943 91/30 Izhevsk except for the bolt and one barrel band. Those are Tula. I picked up a no-go and field gauge and it has plenty of bolt to go before it will close on the no-go so I'm happy with that. The only problem was finding a company that our AG hasn't threatened and would ship ammo to MASS. I found a supply and all is good now. I can't say who.(loose lips sink ships) I'm hoping to pick up a M44 at some point just because. That's on hold for now since I'm in the process of a Garand. A lot of good reading on this site and can't believe some of the collections. NICE.

Greg
