I have yet to shoot it, lack of time with a new baby around the house, but I already love it and I am looking for a second. I have identified it as a 91/30 from 1930. It is an all matching numbers that was manufactured in the Tula factory. I will post pics so the thread isn't useless! Nice to finally have joined, been a lurker for at least 6 months....

Welcome to the board, yes, a headspace check is a good idea, it's easy, and you can find the gauge you need by clicking on the Okie banner at the top of any board page.mosinsky wrote:Greetings fellow Mosin-Nagant lovers! I am very new owner, in fact, I haven't received my 91-30 yet as it is slowed by the horrible winter weather in the Mid-West. In the meantime I have been deep in research to learn as much as possible about this type of rifle. I won't know if it will be covered in goo, but I look forward to disassembling it, cleaning it, and firing it. I've heard that it recommended that it may need the head spacing checking. Does this seem right? I wouldn't want it to "blow up" in my arms.

Hello and Happy 2014! I am excited to be making my first post as a new member and new Mosin Nagant owner. Hopefully my pix post OK, they are all .jpgs. I used the "Insert Image" tool, and just entered the path from my hard drive. The "Insert Image" tool suggests a .png file with url, rather than an local directory path. If there's a btetter way to get pix to post, please let me know.
I read a post from Judi suggesting that forum newbies tell the 5 W's on buying their Mosin, so here goes.
Just brought home a 91/30, 1934 Tula Hex receiver.

Electro-penciled. Bought at a local store, seems to be a pretty good price. Complete accessory kit. Bayonet not too much trouble to attach/remove with the right tools. I have already learned a lot from reading this forum on new ownership/cleaning, etc. I know it's freezing most places, but I'm lucky it is warm enough here to bag it and put it in the car for a cosmoline melt-down session. Must get it cleaned up and then out to the range! I have some Soviet surplus ammo, silvertips, 1975 from Plant 188, copper jacket. Also have some new ammo, silver jacket, 185 gr, from MFS, importer is RUAG Ammotec Tampa, FL.

My 1934 Tula Hex has the sling slots pressed into the stock, no visible screws.
Looks like my Tula has a Bolt from Izhevsk? Can any of the experts weigh in on these Bolt markings? Looks like the Izhevsk Arrow In Triangle, and the Izhevsk Bow & Arrow. Not sure about the others. One sort of looks like an Eagle, maybe inside a Star??

I love the idea of owning a piece of history and also the low $$ entry point into shooting something of a pretty large caliber. Last 7.62mm I shot was back in the US Army days with the M-60. WOW, nothing beats rockin-n-rollin with a belt fed M-60 or an M-2 .50 Cal. Good times.
I also just bought another 91/30, in 10-day hold, even better price on a 1942 Izhevsk Round "low wall" receiver, and I noticed the sling slots are screwed into the stock on that one.
Prior to my 91/30's, I've been shooting hand-me-downs from my dad. 1946 Remington Scoremaster model 511 bolt-action .22 mag-fed rifle. Also a 7.65mm (.32 ACP) Czech CZ27 pistol, produced under Nazi occupation with swastika and Waffenamt WaA-76 Eagle markings.

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Greetings All.
I joined the forum following the purchase of my first Mosin Nagant. After research of the markings I have now determined that my rifle was manufactured in Izhevsk in 1941. There is a visible soviet crest, the Izhevsk arrow, point of aim proof, and refurbishment marks on the barrel and stock. I can also see БФ on an oval and 11 on an oval. I read that the later means that the rifle was at some point under Polish ownership? These two markings are on top of each other. Also there are a ИМ mark and a PП in front of the serial number. Does any recognize or knows the meaning of the marks?
Thanks and regards to All

Thanks, Junk Yard Dog, for the welcome and the photo tips. I resized with Windows Photo Viewer, down to 640x480. Hope this works.

With the resized pics try using the "Upload attachment" button down just below the reply box. I use photobucket and just link to the board, it's faster, and easier once you get used to it.

Welcome to the board, most of the small markings found on Soviet Mosins are as yet unknown, but are probably inspection stamps. Polish ownership is always possible, we just don't know.Equinox101 wrote:Greetings All.

Wow, now that was easy. Wish I'd have seen that Tab earlier! Hoping 3rd time is a charm.
I also now realize that Preview should indeed display the pix. Growing pains for the newbie, I guess. Thanks for your patience and instructions.

Hello from Birmingham, Alabama! I have an M44 carbine that looks great, but has a bad "sticky bolt" problem, despite many cleanings. I took it to a gunsmith and he said the chamber is worn and that's causing the casings to not eject easily. I don't know if he's right or wrong. I hope to get some answers here.

Worn chamber should make the rounds come out easier. Get a 20 gauge shotgun cleaning brush, mount it on a section of shotgun cleaning rod, wrap the brush in oooo size steel wool, put some JB bore paste on the steel wool, Mount the rod in a drill and drill the brush into the chamber for a minute, do not let it go into the rifling. Clean the rifle and give it another try. For worst cases you may have to do it a couple of times. Welcome to the board

Welcome to the board Tony, bad weather all over, the Mosin will not care because however cold and snowy it is in Kentucky it's nothing compared to a wartime winter on the Eastern Frontanthonyh58 wrote:Hi,

Hello all,
I caught the Mosin bug this year at BGGAKS, sharonville...4 rifles later, I'm hooked. I've put many rounds down range and am looking forward to a break in the weather. If you know a good outdoor range in sw ohio, please pass it along...until next time!
