My M1867 Werndl-Holub

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

My M1867 Werndl-Holub

Post by Misfit »

Found this while cleaning out my grandmother house. It's a M1867 Werndl-Holub. Dated 1868. We believe it was a bring back. Being my grandfather and great grandfather were not gun collectors. There does seen to be an issue when the hammer comes down it does not line up correctly. Maybe someday I'll get it working

Nice, I have one, as does at least one other board member. Post some good pics of what the hammer is doing. Could be a bringback, but unlikely as these were relegated to secondary use even at the time of the Great War and sold as surplus after that. More Likely it was acquired from Bannerman Arms as this was a catalog item back at least as far as the 30's, and probably earlier. Bought for decoration most likely as there was very little ammunition available for them. This is a black powder cartridge rifle, and it is possible to have rounds custom made for it, or load them yourself if you got the bullet mold, die set, and powder. This is not a cheap rifle, they start at around $400 and head up from there today so take good care of it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

We really do believe it to be a bring back and not purchased here. We found it with all the war stuff including a walther p38 which was my grandfathers bring back.

Not impossible, I have a recently acquired German commission 88, and Belgian made 20 gauge that are strongly suspected to be bringbacks from WW2 also, but without the papers, or first hand account from the soldier himself..... still fascinating no matter how they got here.
