Looking for decent butt pads for T-53 & 91/30

Post by tide72 »

Hey guys... I'm looking for a decent rubber butt pad for a T-53 and 91/30 (are these interchangeable?). I've seen some on Amazon but the reviews say they're too hard to effectively reduce the recoil. Any suggestions?? Happy New Year!!

Check out kalinka optics web page. I got one of theirs and love it. They fit the carbines 91\30 and m91s.

If this is the one you have been looking at don't even bother with it. Had a buddy put one on his 91/30 and it didn't help at all.

The local Walmart near ne is carrying a slip on rubber pad, and it looks as good as anything else I have seen. And you can remove it when you aren't using it. Or switch to the other rifle.

The pad pictured above is only good if you need additional length of pull to fit long arms and such.

This right Russell? http://www.walmart.com/ip/LimbSaver-10545/19342432 They have different sizes for different rifle stocks so you'll have to make sure you get one that fits your rifles.

I have a couple of the hard rubber recoil pads like pictured. If you take a 3/8" fdrill and drill out the rubber from the holes you see is the picture they work OK. Though mostly I've just taken to shooting Mosins as issued. In fact I have a spare recoil pad that I've never used, if you PM me your address you can have it. You'll have to drill it out yourself though.

Just make sure if you use a "slip on" that you remove it from the stock when done. Or it will discolor your shellac on the stock if left on for a period of time.

http://kalinkaoptics.com/firearm-access ... t-pad.html

This is the one that I use (when I use one). It goes on and off easier than the limbsaver (which is also a good choice). With this one, I could shoot hundreds of rounds and not even notice the recoil. My shoulders have gotten to the point now though that I don't typically need it when shooting the mosins. Of course I don't typically throw more than 100 rounds down range with them lately either!

I prefer to wear a recoil pad instead of mounting one on the rifle, that way it's always there when I need it and I don't have to switch it back and forth on the many rifles i bring to the range. the one I use is made by Past and was around $25.

If you decide to get the slip on ones, the limbsaver works well and the medium size works on all mosins and springfields, garands, etc.

Thanks Brian, I see these posts asking about recoil pads and never know which size to recommend to people. I don't use them because I have a fair amount of meat (fat) on my shoulder so I really don't need them. Fred_G has one and I'm not sure what size he got but he loves his.

Whichever size Limbsaver fits the Mossberg 500 will also fit the MN rifles. I have used the same on both

The medium size works on everything I own. The funny thing I noticed recently is the slip on pads I have had for about 5 years are turning gummy and gooey almost too soft to use anymore. They are decomposing for some reason, I can't think of having exposed them to any chemicals though. They are turning into that glue that holds weatherstripping on the trunk of a new car... that tar like substance that sticks to everything!!

No bueno.
