Missing in action.
Missing in action.
Well I bought a nice Mosin the day before Christmas from Gander Mountain. Due to their policy of not allowing you to have the bayonet when purchasing the rifle they send it to you in the mail/FedEx. After a week still no bayonet
, I only live 5 minutes away. Stopped by the store today to see if they have a tracking number but their shipping and receiving guy is not working today. I wonder is this a policy at other stores(Gander Mountain) or otherwise or just our local store?

Re: Missing in action.
Anything being shipped now could take up to three times the normal "time" to get wherever it is going due to volume and the fact that all the big shippers let the temporary help go on December 24th.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Re: Missing in action.
I bought one on black friday at the Gander mountain in Kalamazoo and took the bayonet home with the rifle.
It must be some weird local store policy?

Thanks for the replies , seems like this must be some local version of the store policy or gun law they think they need to follow. I realize the holidays are a shipping nightmare for the shipping companies and I'm going to give it a few more days and then maybe contact the corporate office and see what they have to say about this. Might help in future purchases.

Re: Missing in action.
You have it a little better than some GM stores. . They sell the bayonets separately at a big mark-up.
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.
Re: Missing in action.
Well if they start that I'm sure I would be spending my money elsewhere. They already took the sling, ammo pouch and tool pouch out of the deal. Only getting the bayonet/oil can and a few cleaning tools-pretty skimpy.racerguy00 wrote:You have it a little better than some GM stores. . They sell the bayonets separately at a big mark-up.

Those guys on Ebay have to get them somewhere.

You can't take the bayonet with you
So, I guess they would rather have you shot five people rather than sticking them. Isn't that what we usually do when we buy these rifles? PC police are alive and well in Michigan.

Re: Missing in action.
I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about Gander Mountain. I live 5 minutes from a new GM firearms super center, and have been there about 10 times looking for 22 ammo, and every time it is some lame excuse. Every time they tell me the truck comes on Monday morning. This week I went Monday morning and they said we didn't get a truck this week. Try next Monday. Awe bull corn. Also the Mosins on the rack have the bayonet tie strapped to the stock, scratching the finish. Idiots!

Re: Missing in action.
Some dealers are making up for the years when the extras were tossed in with the rifle at no extra cast. Back a few years I had some sellers toss extra extras into the shipping box with a rifle just to be rid of them. Don't pay big money for slings, or cleaning kits, you can still get them cheap from board advertisers or eBay.

Re: Missing in action.
The LGS that I got my '32 Tula Hex from threw 2 extra pouches in the deal, just because he had them.
Re: Missing in action.
Do they sell knives? Do they want to mail those to you too? Strange policy. Strange indeed.

Re: Missing in action.
Perhaps it's a function of some weird law, local or state.
At the Hamburg, PA store, guys from Jersey can't have bayonets because that's against the law in the Garden State.
Now, how utterly insane is that? They can buy and bring back an extremely accurate high-power rifle, but not the bayonet.
This has had a downside for all of us. These rifles arrive with matched bayonets, but because of that NJ law, ALL the bayonets are tossed in a pile. When you go to checkout, you have to ask that they make sure the bayonet fits the rifle because you won't be getting the one that originally went with the rifle.

Well, In that case I'm sure they get stuck with a whole boat load of 91/30 bayonets they just can't seem to get rid of. That seems like a good use of valuable merchandise space.racerguy00 wrote:You have it a little better than some GM stores. . They sell the bayonets separately at a big mark-up.
Re: Missing in action.
Well the bayonet showed up today, finally got to talk to their shipping guy and he gave me a tracking number-the bayonet was shipped out 5 days after I purchased the rifle. Must have been to busy at the story.

Re: Missing in action.
I live close to two Gander Mts. One puts the used rifles and shotguns on a rack where you can handle them (have a security cord attached), the other hides them behind the counter (meaning that a salesperson has to help you, good luck with that). One puts out an entire crate of Mosins, the other only one at a time (and won't check the back room for you). One runs a "managers special" on Mosins for $129. The other, $179. One keeps all the merchandise consistently displayed, the other changes the department layout weekly. It's almost as if the stores are "independent" franchises, or have a very loose corporate connection. Guess which one I prefer to go to :-) :-) :-)
Re: Missing in action.
my gander has them all behind counter and u have to work with sales associate but so far all have been more than willing to go in back multiple times for me if there not busy and they even price match so ive bought quite a few guns there
