A couple new airguns

Post by ponycarman »

Grabbed a daisy powerline 880 from wally world for $39 and a crosman 2100 from academy. So far I like them from just playing with them. The 2100 is definitely more hefty. The daisy came with a little scope. Wow its tiny lol. Kinda tough to look though. I'm sure I will upgrade eventually. Until then the little crappy one will work. I'll have to sight it in at a further distance and see how it does. A quick sight in from across the room had good results. Shoots well. Of course this is only short distance.

One thing I did notice was the 880 was much easier to pump up. I like their somewhat classic lines. Reminds me of some older .22 rifles. They both seem like pretty well built and should be fun

I have the Crossman, it was the pellet gun I learned to shoot with as a kid, they'll take down rabbits at 50 yards when correctly sighted in, I have a pellet gun range in the basement I play with it.

I'm looking at the Crossman Fury for my birthday gift to myself in a week, I'm a definite believer in pellet guns in an SHTF situation

Sweet! Good to hear the great report. I was kinda iffy about getting anything in .177. I was going to stick more to .22 but that didn't last long. Tons of options in the other caliber. Airguns are kinda funny. They feel super weak from the lack of noise and recoil of a normal firearm but still have plenty of energy to use for hunting and target shooting. Just takes some getting used too haha. My Benjamin .22 packs quite a punch and isn't really powerful on paper at least. I want to get some co2 airgun just to save me from pumping. But I like the how pump rifles are self contained and can vary the power to the situation.

I have had both models. They are fine starling killers, but in the end I found that Aguila Colibris, and an old .22 put an end to my Air/CO2 search. Quieter, more power, no question.

That Daisy was my first "gun". I have fond memories of it. I was thinking of getting another one just for the heck of it.

In most situations I would just take a .22. But airguns are better for my neighborhood. Less noise, attention, and cheap to shoot. The cheapness is the main point. I still haven't been able to find any good sizable source or .22 ammo to replenish my stock. So these make excellent ways to shoot on the cheap in the backyard. A couple bucks for a 500 pellets and I can get them from wally world at anytime.

It is. Most people don't believe it's an air gun, they all think it's a shot gun.

Varies depending on the bullet weight, but somewhere around 1000 fps.

Been playing with each of them a couple days and I'm liking the 2100. Very accurate and feels great in hand. Also went back to academy to find some pellet gun oil and saw they had marked down the crosman 2100. They refunded me about $20 so I got the 2100 for $49. Great deal.

The 880 is lighter and more plasticy. Shoots good but leaks down sometime. Which is why I went to get the oil haha.

I picked up the 880 recently and have been having fun with it in my basement. I just have enough room to have about 33 feet to the target. I left the scope off of it and have been able to keep 90% of my shots in a 1 inch bulls eye with the iron sights. I hope to get better with practice. I had to put a lamp behind me to have enough light to see the white dot on the front sight. I also picked up a Beeman Silver Kodiak X2 with dual .177 and .22 barrels with a scope off of Craigslist for $25. I found that with the Beeman springer recoil, the looser I hold it, the better the accuracy.

I returned the daisy shortly after I got it. It leaked right out of the box. Oh well haha. The crosman is perfect so far though. How do you like the kodiak? Been looking at them in walmart. I have a few other airguns of my want list. I'm not sure I will go into spring rifles. They are different animals with their hold sensitivity.

I like the Silver Kodiak X2, although I wasn't looking to buy it. A guy had it on Craigslist for $100 but didn't name the make or model. Just said he had an air rifle for sale. So I texted him and asked what it was. So a week later he asked if I would give him $75. No. Then a week later, he texted $50. I told him no, I have Christmas presents to buy. He said how much then... so I said I could give him $25 if he brought it to me. That's how I ended up with it.

It's heavy. No iron sights just the scope. Zeroed it in and it's dead accurate (at 30 feet LOL!). You do have to have a loose grip on these. I only rest it on my open left hand. The O ring at the breech looks a little messed up, but it came with a replacement, so I might swap it out and look for some spares. I think it will take a standard 8mm ring. You also have to make sure all of the screws are tight on it too. It's kinda loud, even with the suppressor on the barrel. Anyway, for $25, it's fun to mess around with.

I made a pellet trap out of a cardboard box with about 3 inches of magazines taped to the inside back of it, then filled with crumpled newspapers. It's working pretty good so far.

Have you thought about a pistol at all? I'm thinking about getting one to practice with, but can't decide on which one would be best. I don't want to spend $300, just $100 and under just to have some fun....

I have a crosman 1377 pistol. Its fun and accurate. Just gets old pumping the thing up all the time. I plan to get one built from the crosman custom shop. They range from $80-$120 depending on how you have them built. They are co2 powered. And while that is an extra expense I think it will add to the fun by not having to be pumped up repeatedly. They also build rifle versions too.
