SKS Field Strip

Post by paul6892 »

All sub-components are detached from the stock, trigger guard assy.,magazine, receiver/barrel, receiver dust cover, recoil spring, fire pin/channel assy, action bolt, gas tube/piston and operating rod/spring.

Stage one cleaning complete,90% of grease/cosmoline removed. :bwink:

Starting detailed cleaning, the bore looks like a sewer pipe.

I plan to wipe down stock and gas tube cover lightly with a little water and dawn.

Let air dry and wipe down with light coat of Old English furniture polish

Years ago I bought a small book about care and feeding of the SKS rifle, I don't know what happened to it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Field stripping and cleaning finished

Looks like I have a True Russian sneak SKS rifle :vcool:

The serial number is KI0 4129, it IS Cyrillic letters and is stamped on All components except, the receiver dust cover
which is F5766, NO Cyrillic letters, Chinese dust cover :!: :shifty:

The stock is a little worn but no major denks or deep cuts

All the metal parts are in very good to excellent condition and the bore is very bright with very good,
well defined lands and groves, appears to be chrome lined :)

Damn, Back on the couch again :!: :chuckles:

Here's another site that shows you how to disassemble and reassemble your rifle: http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/index.asp.

I get alot of field manuals from here, scroll down to "S", several models of SKSs there http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm They pretty much are the same, other than external features and markings.
I said I was an addict. I didn't say I had a problem.
