Hmmm, a 12/20 burst in a full choke shotgun. Makes sense.

Re: Remington 1100 Barrel Blew Up
I just went an dug out a 20ga. shell and layed it in the split part of the barrel. I can see how this would happen if the shell could make it to the end of the barrel. With the barrel off of the receiver I tried dropping it in from the chamber end. The shells rim stops it from going into the bore. The rim is slightly larger than the end of the chamber and it stopped with base of the shell even with the end of the chamber. Then I put the shell he brought with the gun that was from the box of shells he loaded the gun with that day. Remember this was a brand new unopened box and this was the first shot of the day when this happened. The shell I put in is a 3" shell in a 3" chamber with the 20ga shell in there and if I tilted the barrel back and forth I could hear the 20ga shell move maybe 1/4". What I'm getting at is the 3" 12ga shell would chamber on top of the 20ga that was already in the barrel without touching it, with room to spare and wouldn't have forced it into the barrel. That would mean if he pulled the trigger with it in this condition the 12ga shell would fire sending it's shot into the base of the 20ga shell immediately. I would think in this condition the shot would almost certainly strike the primer immediately unless the wadding protected it until it lodged in the choke if it could push the 20ga shell into the bore past where the rim was holding it without it exploding near the chamber. Very interesting. I'll show this to his dad and see what he thinks. I'm going to ask them if he uses a certain jacket to hunt and if it's possible if he had a 20ga shell in the pocket and mixed some of the new ammo out of the box in his pocket.bunkysdad wrote:Hmmm, a 12/20 burst in a full choke shotgun. Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The ones who ask for stuff and then never collect it, try to sell us stolen shit forgetting what we did to them the last time they tried it, or who owe me money and get a sudden case of amnesia. At least your friend has a good reason with running a business and all.
Well I have to say I was wrong this time but after asking so many times (5 or 6) I was sure he'd forgot again. But it appears he didn't. The brown truck just delivered 2,000rds of .223 goodness. He has redeemed himself. I didn't want to mention his name before because though I was a bit pissed he kept forgetting I didn't want to out right trash him because being the eternal optimist I still was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The person I'm talking about is Rudy Zuruba one of the owners of Freedom Munitions. Besides running the business on a daily basis he goes to shooting competitions where they sponsor some of the shooters, like team Noveske, and team Miculek as well as a few others. They're shooting commercials that are slated to run on Glen Beck and some place else as well. He holds a concealed carry class on Fridays and runs a construction business. I know how busy he is but I was starting to feel like a redheaded stepchild. He's a good guy but is just spread real thin. Here's what he sent.

Did he fire a slug through the full choke?

No, he was using 3" Winchester Super-X steel shot to duck hunt. Brand new box, first shot of the day. I have the rifle here now and his dad stopped by to look at it for the first time since he got back in town. These guys are avid hunters and his dad's take is since he was wading in water, up to his chest at times, he either filled the barrel with water along the way and didn't drain it before shooting or it was packed with mud. Needless to say once I get a new barrel for it my buddy told me he's the only one that's ever going to use this gun to hunt with. The boy is getting the Stoeger 12ga below for Christmas to use for what ever he wants. The other rifle, the Ruger American .243, is his sister's Christmas present.Jackson wrote:Did he fire a slug through the full choke?

I've seen theend results. Remington 870's and the "new and improved" 11-87's as well as 1100's and other makes including a sweet Ruger O/U blown up as a result of operator error. Some were mud, one was a insect nest (some type of wasp) one was ice/slush and one was a 20 gauge shoved in a 12 gauge chamber and when it did not fire or eject the 12 gauge shell made a hell of a mess. All were because the nut behind the stock did not check the barrel. He did not exercise proper safety. Basically he "F'd" up.mogunner wrote:Plugged barrel.

Nice Dad. I got both of my kids 30-30's, SKS's and each a Ruger Mark II. Neither one was really interested and I ended up with the SKS's and ended up with a Savage 340D in .222 Remington for one of the 30-30s. I still have one of the Rugers as well. Still have a shot with the grandkids.

Yeah these kids like anything that shoots but especially if it's something they can hunt with. The girl is 13 and the boy is 16 or 17. They have a few 30-30s in the family and all kinds of different hunting rifles including .243, .270, .280, .375 Bigbore, 30-06, .308 as well as others I can't remember. Dad had an SKS years ago and sold it but as soon as he saw mine wanted one again and is sorry he got rid of his.Ironnewt wrote:WeldonHunter wrote:No, he was using 3" Winchester Super-X steel shot to duck hunt. I'm thinking about getting rid of some .38 Spl brass and swapping it for loaded "something"
I've shot a bunch of it, so has Fred_G and never had a problem. Though he's is friend of mine if it was junk I wouldn't recommend it. They make new and reman but it's basically the same ammo, made on the same machines with the same exact components except for the brass on the reman which is fully processed to SAAMI standards. They make the machines it's made on too. They're part a of a company that makes the Ammoload Mark series ammo processing machines at Howell Machine and Tool.

Re: Remington 1100 Barrel Blew Up
He is a good guy and though his son messed up on this one so are both of his kids. Here's an insight into this boys character. He got ahead of himself in a conversation with his mom. She grounded him by taking his truck and phone away. He's got a girlfriend that he hadn't spoken with for a few days and while out dove hunting with his Papaw was handed a phone to give her a call by this well meaning grandparent. The boy said to his grandfather "No I can't do that Papaw, it wouldn't be right" Now that's what I'm talking about. The kid's got integrity. When Papaw told mom about this later on, his phone and truck privileges were restored. Papaw on the other hand was in hot water for trying to circumvent mom's authority. You never know though, Papaw's are wiley and wise old dudes and this may have been a test. Regardless the kid passed with flying colors.Jackson wrote:WeldonHunter wrote:No, he was using 3" Winchester Super-X steel shot to duck hunt. Brand new box, first shot of the day. Look any time a person stands up and says " Hmmmm. Uh I screwed up and did this" makes a good mark in the playbook of life. Now if he keeps doing it and doesn't stop/learn from his mistakes or just doesn't care, there is a problem. Sounds like a good kid that just got a little ahead of himself.

Re: Remington 1100 Barrel Blew Up
Through this whole thing he never tried to make excuses or second guess us and answered any question I asked him truthfully as far as I could tell. I have a real good BS detector and no kid is going to get around that. I'm kind of like an uncle to him and I made it clear why I was asking. It was to find out why it happened and not to place blame. In the course of that he may be found to have done something wrong and that's ok. It's about safety and not to say Aha!! you screwed up!! He understands that completely. The bottom line is we don't know for sure what happened but he knows now that he has to be more vigilant about making sure the barrel on firearms are protected from anything that might get in there.Ironnewt wrote:Look any time a person stands up and says " Hmmmm.
