No problem with that as you are on a US based Mosin collectors board, English is the main language here  Welcome to the board.

I'll bet if you post photos of it in the Mosin section we can tell you what it is. We have the best guys on the internet when it comes to Mosins right here.

Welcome

Thanks Dolk! I'll give it a shot... :popgun: Pun intended

Newby With 6 Mosins

Post by Luthierseye »

I'm looking at a 1934 Hex Tula at a Gander Mountain. It is a lot cleaner than my 1935 Hex Tula and has several arsenal marks on the stock and is finished in a lighter color than my others. The bore is nice and the bolt is not sloppy. Pretty impressive. Does anyone know where Gander gets their Mosins? Several others looked very nice as well but the dates were later; but overall a very nice selection.

Classic $99.99 B grade stock

Post by Luthierseye »

Newby here. I got the B grade 1943 wartime Izhevsk 91/30 bargain from Classic. The stock is a beat up refurb from awhile back. Is it OK to refinish it carefully leaving the arsenal marks showing? I can't be proud of the way it looks now. The barrel(not counterbored) and action are "OK to good". I cleaned it but haven't fired it so I don't know if it's a good shooter yet. So, what's the general opinion?

Welcome to the board, leave the finish alone, it's a 70 year old milsurp that saw use in the largest war in human history, it's supposed to look the part, it's the "pretty" ones that don't look it. You have a real battle rifle, let it show it's dings and scrapes, some of my issued rifles have no shellac left at all.

Hello there. Just recently purchased my first Mosin. It's a 1944 M44. Got it for 275 with 100rds of ammo at a gun show. It is in excellent shape, VERY clean bore and relatively smooth action. The stock looks fantastic. It's all numbers matching minus the plate at the bottom of the magazine (stamped-matching) and my bolt has a few of (what I suspect to be) the tula factory stars. They're located on the safety and underneath the bolt handle. I haven't put any rounds through it yet, but have a shoot planned the first week of January.

Thanks and I hope to learn a great deal here.

Welcome to the board, school Teacher? I had the husband of a school teacher in here today, he wants to buy one of my 1930's solid oak teachers desk chairs to give her for christmas. Good idea you think, or will it get busted over his head?

Welcome to the board, smooth bolt? On a Mosin? You must have gotten lucky! Nice deal, yes, the little star stamps are Tula, but is there a big star on the barrel shank over the date?

Negative, hammer and sickle Izhevsk marking. Like I said, RELATIVELY smooth bolt lol.

Had to ask as 1944 was the one year Tula produced the M44 :)
