I'm hopefully getting a garand
This is a WWII era garand that is almost mint. The guy is really hard pressed for cash,so I figured that I'd be a Good Samaritan and take the burden off his hands. I just hope he calls me sometime soon,he said he'll have to think about it.

You have done all your homework here and you know exactly what you are buying? For instance, you know what a reweld is? A deep stamp Blue Sky import mark? You have gauged the bore?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

CMP paperwork, or rather DCM from back then means it's good, unless he didn't take care of it or shot the living hell out of it then you should be OK.

Re: I'm hopefully getting a garand
My guess is you will end up with a relatively fresh from rebuild Garand. The DCM had a lot of those, once upon a time. There were some absolutely brand new DCM Garands I saw over the years, but very few.
Tell us what the markings are on the wood and steel, and I will drag out my reference books. Particularly of interest will be the stampings in the wood usually on the left side, just below the rear of the receiver, and on the portion of the rear of the barrel exposed when you pull back the op rod.
Some welded receivers I have seen are very well done, and the only way you can know it is welded is because the right front leg markings don't jive with the serial number. Also, a well done welded and re-heat treated receiver works fine: I put 5000 rounds through one with no complaints.

Everyone including me, who needs one too. 800 sounds fair enough. It should be worth a little more for sure but not such a lowball that you would be taking advantage. Lots of luck Mosin kid.
Re: I'm hopefully getting a garand
A guy posted a CMP one about a week ago for $300.
Of course I jumped on it as soon as I saw it..It was to late..sold in 20 min.
