I use a 44" Dewey with a brass jag from the breach. I soak everything for days in a mixture of :mineral spirits, kerosine, Marvel mystery oil and rislone. I just pour it back in the jug and leave the last few ounces behind. The actual recipe is on the Makarov site.

Maybe if we save the bigger pieces we could make stew?

Dang does that stuff bubble while it is in the jug waiting for the next task? I would love to see the MSDS sheet on that and see all the stuff it could cause! Bill

I use an ultrasonic cleaner that I got from Harbor Freight. It looks like it's essentially the same model as the Lyman model that Brownells sells for a lot more. If you wait for a 25% off Harbor Freight coupon, it's a great deal at about $62. I fill it with degreaser and all Mosin parts will fit in it (except barrel/receiver, bayos, etc..). It has a heat setting too and it cleans everything down to the pores.

bunkysdad wrote:My favorite rod is a one piece carbon fiber rod and 44" long. It is made by Tipton and I just remove the bolt and clean from the breach end. I have not boiled my bolt, but get the same results with boiling water. If you soak the bot down it needs to be disassembled, which I think is probably what you were talking about. Boiling all the bolt pieces.
X'2 And I drop the bolt in varsol and then take a small paint brush to it; then oil it down.
