Remington Mod 511 .22 bolt actiom

Post by Buckhead »

Went Yard sailing this weekend. I went up to my place up in Okeechobee Florida to do some work on the yard and house. My wife stayed home to get ready for our
trip to North Carolina. On my way up I hit a few yard sales and came across this sweet Remington Mod 511 Scoremaster made in 1949 judging by the code on the left side of the receiver LUU which making it 1949. But there is a number on the right side of the receiver that is y47 that I don,t know what it stands for. The seller said it was his Grandfathers and has been in the family forever. I could not believe the shape it is in, The bluing is perfect I would say 99% and has never been re blued The stock has some minor scratches but nothing major. I put a little lemon oil on it and it looks great. The owned said he knows it has not been fired in 45 years or more. He said he is not a gun guy and he found it in a the Attic of his grandfathers house in an old cabinet that they wanted to get rid of. He remembered the gun but never knew what happened to it till now. He asked if I knew what it was worth. I said I had no idea, nor did I know anything about that model. He asked if I would give him $150.00 for it. It was in such good shape I just couldn't walk away with out it. I still don't know anything about it other then the year it was made or if I over paid for it but I wanted it and my wife wasent there so what the heck. I will send some pictures soon as I can .

Those are nice old guns. You did good pricewise.
I can't imagine selling my grandfathers Remington.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

It is hard to believe the shape of this gun. I asked why he was selling his grandfathers gun and he said he had no kids to hand it down to and he was not a gun person.
I lucked out because they had just got set up and hadn't had but a few people come by. I think it is what you call being in the right place at the right time. There is no way to scope it without having it modified. I am going to leave this as is, it is just pretty. I probably will put a white line spacer on the butt plate. that can always be removed and do no harm to the gun, I just like the way they look. Does any one know what the Y47 is on the right side of the receiver. The Y does not pressed the 47 it is kind of on it's side.
I will get some pictures out tomorrow.

Very nice find. The mark is probably a Inspector stamp. I was watching a old black and white YouTube video the other day from the old days in the Remington rifle plant and there were the inspectors right there on the video stamping their personal Mark on brand new rifles.
