Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
Classic arms again, and selling a fake piece of history, again, Gibbs rifle company has a well known history of faking milsurps. This is the company that cut down 7.62 Ishapoor Enfields to make a "No7 Jungle carbine", and fooled me into buying it back in the days before the internet made it easy to look such things up. This is a replica M1903 built on a USGI receiver but with new barrel, stock, and other bits, this is not an original M1903 any more than a commercial sporter would be, and it's selling in the same price range as a real M9103 would sell in. Absolute bullshit and not worth anything close to what they ask. Classic the Mosin chromers, and Gibbs the Bubba rifle makers, all we need is Mitchells Mauser's to join the group to make it a perfect trilogy.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

"Replica" is used way too many times.

I'm broke because I buy milsurps. I'm rich because I buy what I enjoy.

NO Is not a good deal at all.

Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
As stated above, this is not a good deal. Gibbs builds those 03A3's on recovered drill rifle receivers, yes that means they've been welded on at some point in time. You can find a real one out there for less dollars if you are patient and search around. The Gibbs rifles are not collectable at all as they're not all USGI. If they were priced around $500.00 I don't think it would be a bad deal for a "shooter" 03A3, but they won't ever be collectible in my opinion.
Suprisingly, on the CMP forums, the Gibbs sniper 03AForgery gets pretty good reviews and seem to resell for near what they cost.

Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
A local gun shop had a Smith Corona (1943 I believe) 03A3 this past Wednesday for $850. The barrel and receiver were both stamped Smith Carona. The stock was SA I belive. My buddy bought it. I would really have like to have it. I seen these Gibbs rifles on Classic's site and they did nothing for me.

This rifle is bad news, another "replica" that will be passed off as the real deal ten years from now, something more to muddy up the water so to speak.

You can find the real deal cheaper. I picked up a Remington 03a3 for $625 a year or so ago. It's been arsenal refurbished, as have most of them you see, but it's still the real deal.

Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
Hello, Holly Shit, I just picked up two Rem. 42/43's 03a3's, a few months back for 600.00 total. JUST BECAUSE I had 30-06 dies. One referbed by San Antonio, but not green anodized, still blued; the other semi sported for red field sights, non-referb. in blue, all hardware matches. Luck of the draw....???? Early Bird, Catches The worm??? I love the POI, Working up loads for both, now. Just a bitch, keeping data on two rifles with different OAL with different projectiles. I know, work on one rifle, at a time.. Haste makes waste ...

Those Gibbs are simply a fake and a joke to me. But, if you want just an 06 to shoot and have money to burn, I guess do it if you wish. Not me. You can buy a lot more original for much less.

There are a few small gun shops in my neck of the woods that have large selections of milsurps. One of them had this rifle on the shelf for $675. I was able to talk them down to $625 because this particular rifle had a 1903 trigger guard and floorplate on it instead of the correct stamped one piece unit.BenedictGomez wrote:EJTHor wrote:You can find the real deal cheaper. Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
sounds like a great deal to me, as the 1903 parts can be sold for a small profit and replaced with correct A3 parts. I did the same thing recently on one that had a milled band and made $40 by putting the right parts on itEJTHor wrote:There are a few small gun shops in my neck of the woods that have large selections of milsurps. Re: Classic Black Friday Sale, Springfield 1903A3 .30-06 Rif
After doing a little research, this 03a3 of mine might NOT be an arsenal rebuild. It was sent to Raritan Arsenal for re-proofing, but from the looks of things, not rebuild. I suspect the trigger guard was replaced during the re-proofing, as the stamped 03a3 trigger guards tended to crack.
That explains why this rifle is otherwise completely original, with the correct mix of blue and parked parts, and are all Remington marked.
