U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
I picked up a couple of Type 53s from Century arms recently. They were of the u-fix-em variety. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the rifles. The first rifle was numbers matching with about 80% of the bluing intact and a very nice shootable bore. It's two defects were the missing upper hand guard and lower receiver bolt. The other gun with was mismatched had a fantastic bore but had a badly broken stock. Here is some pictures of the numbers matching rifle after cleaning and replacing the missing pieces. One interesting thing to note is near the serial number on various parts of the rifle the number 16 is stamped on the metal. Anyone know what this number stands for?

It looks like you got quite a deal on this lucky score. Very nice.

They've taken the listing down for the T53's u-fix-ems, looks like they are totally out of them. You can however buy the cracked stock ones in the regular C&R section, buy three and you get a discounted price that brings them down to $81 each shipped from my figures.

The 16 is an assembly number.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Could you elaborate on that? Lots of markings on these rifles, compared to my Russian Mosins.
Re: U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
They sure sell them fast. The problems is the stock, if unrepairable, seem to be fetching as much as the u-fix-em rifles themselves. I have one ordered from Rick Reich, at a reasonable price.mogunner wrote:They've taken the listing down for the T53's u-fix-ems, looks like they are totally out of them. Wow, that's a really nice Century T-53 - the nicest I have seen, U-Fix-em or not.
We can't elaborate much on the "16" you are asking about - we just don't know. What kinds of other markings are you talking about. Under the wood line there are sometimes lots of inspection stampings and some of the T-53 stocks are loaded with stampings. Cool factor but we have no clue what most mean.

Re: U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
Yeah mine has the number 21 in a triangle on the bolt, i've seen that on others. But the stock has random single numbers in about 5 places, very cool. I took it to the range and it is a great shooter to boot. The bore is actually fairly shiny, definitely not a dark bore rifle. The other non-matching rifle, is actually slightly better has slightly better metal, overall. Thanks for looking.qz2026 wrote:Wow, that's a really nice Century T-53 - the nicest I have seen, U-Fix-em or not.![]()

Re: U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
Just picked up one those 53's and it's my first . After cleaning the cosmoline off everything i think? the
firing pin screw moved. I'm new to these and does anyone have a measurement as to the length and or depth the firing pin should be out of the bolt carrier.
Thanks anyone,

Very important that the fire pin depth is correct, lot of information available on this, it is safety issue.ROVEN wrote:Just picked up one those 53's and it's my first . After cleaning the cosmoline off everything i think? the

You need to pick up one of the cleaning kits that has the multi-tool in it, it is used to measure the firing pin protrusion.
Re: U-fix-em Type 53 Matching numbers
Thanks for the info. Found a cleaning kit on sportsman's guide for 16.19 not bad.

Check out the videos, they show how to adjust firing pin, simple to do.

Not bad if you plan on putting them into Boyds stocks, or happen to have some T53 or M44 stocks lying around empty. I regret selling the two that I bought from Century, they were both sweet shooters but they went on down the road to fund buying two gunsmith special first year Chinese SKS's...Rongo wrote:Still not a bad deal...mogunner wrote:They've taken the listing down for the T53's u-fix-ems, looks like they are totally out of them.
